£15 Challenge!

So, for a bit of fun, my wife and I challenged each other to a "watch off".

The criteria was set:

  1. £15 budget

  2. Mechanical watch

  3. Must be crap enough to almost be good! 😂

  4. A watch we would happily wear without embarrassment! 😎

And these are the results...

My wife's Timex (unknown model):

I think we did well!

Nice!

I love this! 👍

I debated doing a WC group one of these, but the problem is that you’d all buy what I tend to clean up on. You can get a bargain or two at £15.

It was good fun trawling through the Internet trying to find a bargain. I got really hooked on the whole Hmt story so i could have ended up with a heap of junk and still loved the story behind it. And the month long wait for it to shipped from India added to the excitement.

That Timex is hilarious, the inner ring is such a funny mashup of ways of telling time.

·

of these two choices, the Timex is the winner for me! i’ve never seen it until now but i can’t help but love it! that inner ring is hilarious and kinda awesome. and i love the fun colour scheme.

dammit. now i actually want one.

the only watch in the $15 price range that came to my mind at first was the Casio FW-91. but these choices are wayyyyy better and way more fun.

edit: pls find out the model / ref for that Timex. asking for a friend. lol

One of the criteria was mechanical movement. So Casio would be out of the running, unfortunately.

I like this game!

It should become a monthly challenge on WC. WRUWTC (what are you wearing that's cheap)!

·

couldn’t find a ref. no. but i did a reverse google image search and found that the model name of the Timex is the “Time Teacher Mechanical Children’s Watch”. there are some examples of it on expired listings on ebay and etsy. looks to be an old / vintage model.

·

Well done! I'll bet Timex could sell enough of those to justify a reissue!

It's actually a kids training watch! I hadn't the heart to say until you mentioned it.

Ah of course! That totally makes sense. Still an incredible pickup, maybe even more so

It's a beautiful one to be fair.

I picked this little 'pepsi' up for my son and he loves it. Getting him started early🤣🤣🤣

Holy crap! Your wife's choice was my first ever watch! Not sure it's the exact same model, but it was a cream dial Timex with the red/blue ring exactly like that. It came on a red plastic strap. It was a present from my grandparents for either Christmas or my birthday when I was about 4, and with help from my dad it taught me to tell the time. It's long long gone, but I've pictured it vividly in my head for 35+years. This post has made my year!

·

Your choice is way cooler btw, but you can't beat nostalgia!

I had one of those Timex Time Teachers as my first watch in 1970 or thereabouts. I think mine had a blue or blue and red strap.

Dammit, now I'm going to have to look on eBay for one.
