Just came today

A San Martin SNO85 appeared in my mailbox today.  This is my first San Martin and to be honest, for the price, I am impressed.  It has a very smooth 120 click bezel, the finish is quite nice, my watch person was impressed with the quality of the build when she sized it for me and the lume isn’t bad.  It is powered by the Seiko NH-35A movement, so it is hand windable and hackable.  The only problem I  have is that the screw down crown is a bit rough, but that may clear up.

The rough, screw down crown matches my experience with a Seiko NH38.  Very unrefined compared to my Sellita powered watches.

I am not sure if it is inherent to the movement or the manufacturer.

Awesome San Martin!  I was very close to buying this model, it has a great original design. Alas, I went with a homage. Should arrive by the end of the month. I can’t wait.

That's a really cool watch, I really like the shark!

I went back and forth myself.   I finally decided on this one because I already have two Orient divers, both Makos, one in orange and one in yellow and a black faced Casio diver.  This one looks very different.

I was looking at that very watch the other night, it's very cool looking!

It is different looking than my other divers.

Congrat's mate very nice indeed. As for the crown screwing down a bit rough, have you tried using a bit of dental floss around the crown stem, it may very well be just a bit of grit from when the watch case was manufactured. Or is it as you push the stem into the watch that it feels a bit unrefined?

Either way it may very well sort itself out with a bit of time and wear👍

·

Not yet, the floss will be tomorrow.  That may help but it is getting a bit better.

That's a function of the manufacturer, as the crown screws into an extension of the case, and not the movement. The stem moves inside the keyless works of the movement, but doesn't screw into the movement.

Had a similar experience with an Addiesdive recently, minus the crown issue. You simply get a lot for the money. Sometimes the dial can feel a little generic, or the dial finishing shows the price point. But all Chinese watches from actual brands were very solid.

I agree.  II examined the stem tube threads under a 10x loupe and they looked fine, so the issue is probably the threads in the crown.

I own a trio of Sea Gulls and  have been happy with them.  II am really impressed with the overall build quality, fit and finish of this San Martin, especially at this price point.  II can see why there are aficionados of the brand.

Congrats! My custom SM says "hello!" 😎👍🏼

There is another possibility: There may be a slight alignment issue with the movement to the case. What that means is that the crown engages the threads on the stem tube at a slight angle. I was able to fix a similar problem by rotating the movement in the case very, very slightly. Not sure if you are ready to open the watch yet. 😁
