Something's bugging me

Hi Folks, As I have said here many times. I love G Shocks. Somethings bugging me. I see a trend that Casio is making more G Shocks Smartwatches. I'm not too fond of this. I know you can turn these features off. I know people might like the smartwatch idea, but I know this is my nitpick, This is turning into a rant. How do you feel about this? Input, please. I guess I won't be buying the G Shock smartwatches. Thanks for listening.

Seems like the natural evolution for the brand.

I don't like either, but if you're into G-Shocks then this is a way for the smart watch function to fly under the radar.

·

It's business isn't it. More smart watches sold than non-smart these days, so they're just capitalising on that.

I’m a sport GPS watch geek, so I looked into G Shock smartwatches from that perspective (not as a watch nerd) as they are apparently trying to compete with Garmin and likes.

They are getting “Meeeh” from sport GPS watch community, many saying “if you are a G Shock lover, go for it. If not, there are better options.”

If they also get “meeeeh” from G Shock lovers like you, they wouldn’t survive.

So, G Shock lovers, it’s your duty to support them until they get better than competitors 😂

I don't think it is a bad thing for G-shock. They need to keep up with current market but they are still sticking to their design philosophy which is very important. Incorporating tech and still keeping the basic functionality is something Casio does very well.

As long as they keep making the basic G-shock along with the few smart models, it is all good.

I really didn't notice but (correct me if I'm wrong) don't they make watches with "smart" capabilities, as opposed to the stupid things that won't tell time unless you download an app and pair to a phone? In that manner, they are like the manually shiftable automatic transmissions. You can play with the gizmo if you so desire, but if you want to forget it even exists, this is even easier to do.

They have a wide catalog, so I wouldn't count on unavailability of unconnected watches from them for a good long while.

Casio has some cool features in their more smart watch like pieces that would be great for no so smart watches. A 6900 with one of those newer MIP screens would make them a mint, even without any connected or smart features.

Casio, and G-Shocks specifically have been playing with various sensors, and data displays for decades.

Back in the 90s people questioned why anyone would want a crappy barometer and thermistor on their wrist... I still question it, but that's just me.

I'm still trying to figure out how all the buttons work on all my old G Shocks. The good news is I've finally mastered setting my DVR to record Dukes of Hazzard Thursday night at 8pm! I'm so technical!!!
