Tricky balance.

Sunday, still in bed (11am France time).

Been thinking about this a bit. Always enjoyed exchanging on watch forums etc, so much friendlier folk than say the photography crowd... they can be very precious ! ๐Ÿ˜œ

But now I have a tiny brand of my own, I get excited when I create something new, and want to share it. So when I post does it pull some free exposure? ....well yes, in effect, but that's not my main motivation. When I was collecting I would post a picture of a new watch in my collection, so it just feels like that for me except even more of a thrill. It doesn't feel wrong and yet there's that nagging doubt.

Would be grateful for some guidance.

I would not have known about you or your watches except for Tim at Caseback Watches. Even on a forum like this a post gets lost quickly with all of the daily dross.

Please keep posting your designs. They are only going to be for a small minority here, but that is to be expected. Your watches came up in some comments yesterday. One tells one who tells another and eventually a watch is sold.

What I like about what you are doing is that I don't see your influences. I can't say, "Oh, he clearly loved the 1957 Whatchamacallit and rearranged some bits." Original watch design is rare.

Keep sharing, please.

Thanks Aurelian,

My golden rule is to never design with making a sale in mind: I believe that's the fast-track to tainted mediocrity.

Asymmetric Beauty, That's my gig!

I canโ€™t put it better than @Aurelian so Iโ€™m just going to agree. This is a watch enthusiast forum and I love it when I see what watchmakers are doing so please post away, you seem to have the right attitude about it.

That is a funky, cool looking watch. I will have to lookup 47Zero wayptches. Please do more posts like this, sharing your work.

Kinda looks like a mid-century modern lamp. Love the handset on this one. Exposing the dial feet on top of the dial like that throws my sense of balance off though.

Ah yes, the dial feet, not for everyone. I mirror polish to make a virtue of them. For they represent the link between the Aesthetic and the Functional, The Watch Designer and The Watchmaker.

Love it! Itโ€™s controlled chaos. The more you look at it the more you realise itโ€™s easier to read!

Thanks for your post. It is very refreshing. I appreciate you showing us your wears for the simple love of what you do. I heard about your watches for the first time on a post yesterday. Seeing a photo by the maker of the watch puts a stamp by that reference. Your watch looks amazing. A simple clean watch with the full use of the negative space on the dail works very well. Youโ€™ve procured a new fan this morning. Thank you again.

Lovely watch and clever design. Even lovelier that you are from Annecy, one of the most beautiful places in the world. ๐Ÿ˜€

Thank you Tom, indeed this area is stunning. I first visited in 2020 and thought I'd arrived in some enormous James Bond film set.

So when my watchmaker training was finished we decided to stay on and establish the business here.

I wish you the absolute best with 47Zero. You are already off to a great start! I visited Annecy twice for the animation festival when I worked for Pixar and fell in love with the area. I definitely want to return one day soon. ๐Ÿ˜€
