UNDONE...cool microbrand or soulless hustlers? What's your POV?

So...having watched all the good YT watch content, I turned to "About Effing Time" because I was bored and did not want to go to sleep.

It truly is a chore watching that program. As I was about to turn it off, they got to the segment on microbrands they thought should not exist. Both Adrian and Andrew had picked UNDONE as the worst microbrand.

Adrian talked about UNDONE's lack of professional ethics and merciless hype trend following.

Andrew discussed the poor quality of the watches...he purchased two and both failed within a year. He also indicated customer service was non-existent.

Here is the video for your reference...

If you want to get to the segment on Undone, it transpires at about 25:20...

Having noticed a number of UNDONE watches on the daily WRUW, especially the Monopoly version which Andrew quotes as a meme for the purported unscrupulous business dealings of the brand, what is your view of UNDONE?

Do you like the brand? Have good experience with them?

For my part, I have to say, I probably purchased too many of them. You know how it is, you lose your reason make a purchase and then it sits forever in the watch box reminding you about bad decisions.

Here are the mistakes I've made from UNDONE...

(anyone interested in any of the above watches, contact me via email, maybe we can work something out 😉)

And here are the ones I'm still happy about purchasing...

It looks good, works good and a strap monster, really like it, so no complaints. As for the company,as 'the man on the street' well how do we know, are they bad, maybe. Are they the worst, most probably not. Its a cut throat world out there, and if true would not be the only one's using 'sharp practices'. I got mine before I saw that tube, would it have made a difference tbh I don't know. I buy a watch because I like a watch, I don't really research their buiseness/brand ethics besides the obvious copies(hommaging plus). Stealing/borrowing/hommaging others designs n ideas is the most common complaint about the industry. We've all got our own moral compass, and mine is salved a little as my Undone was bought very slightly 2nd hand off ebay.

Does Disney know about these guys? I'm sure their Mickey Mouse watches are not authorized.

I was impressed by their creativity and they have some fun watch.

I've had one for about 3 years and never had a problem. Well built and good looking and I dont't care what a couple jamokes on YT say. Apparently Undone wouldn't send them free watches.

Huh, that was never a brand on my radar bit now I almost have to watch the video segment to see why some are so offended by it 😳

Nah, I don't follow their logic, especially not with the MoonSwatch analogy. Swatch acquired Omega and with that comes just as much "legitimacy" as with any sort of licensing in my opinion. Undone does borrow designs I guess but so many others do as well... nothing new and nothing wrong with that especially if it turns out as nicely as the last one of your images 👌

Jumping on each hype train (and successfully so) is just filling/exploiting a void in the market. How could you blame them? Especially as content creators who thrive on hype as well. Because they aren't "passionate"?!... c'mon man, as if the suits at Richemont, Swatch, Seiko or Rolex are really passionate about watches. Some, maybe, but decisions are not driven by passion but dollars. It's a business and as long as they aren't doing something very nasty and unethical I only care for the end product which seems alright in this case, at least that's how I see it.

Anyway, sorry for the rant 😉 seems like I was right not watching this podcast and I likely won't after this snippet 🍻

I feel ya Mel!

I was soo close to buying a few times... then held off before biting. The Effing time comments I heard months later made me feel better about skipping the purchase. Even though I'm generally not a fan of George, I like Adrian.

I think Undone are low rung made in China watches, so I'm glad in retrospect to not have picked up any. No disrespect for anyone whose bought (it was almost me), I'm just trying to not add anything I'd later consider 'disposable fashion' type of watches in my collection. So far so good.
