I feel like I've been snookered by Seiko...

So, yes...I finally was lured in by Eric Wind's Seiko x Rowing Blazers collaboration.

That yellow dial combined with the Rasta NATO took this...

Image

And turned it into this...

Image

I mean who could resist that...Jah Rule OK...

So everything should be great...right?

Well, if the watch was truly 40mm case size, then I and I would have been fine.

So my WatchCrunchers with the larger than average size wrist, be warned!

This watch should really be measured as 37.7mm...it absolutely is not 40mm. They must have measured that diagonally across the case including the crown.

I feel like I have been taken...I love the color combination, but this is not a 40mm watch, and I likely would not have purchased it if it had been properly listed as 38mm.

So this a warning to the large wristed crowd and very good news for those with below average wrist sizes. As this watch really wears relatively small.

I received my Baltic MR01 on the same day as this Seiko. The MR01 is a 36mm case size and it looks the same size on the wrist as this supposedly 40mm watch. Go figure...

Anyway, rant over. Still a cool watch...but somehow I feel like I've been snookered!

I could understand your disappointment. For me, finding out that the case is larger would have the same effect, as I have a small wrist.

The case seems to be similar to their newly released 36mm Dress KX line. Info error aside, it still looks really cool on your seemingly 6.75 or 7-inch wrist.

Thanks - that is the stock photo - wrist shot to come on Sunday in WRUW.

We'll see if I angle it right to make it look larger 😉

Hey..stop hogging that doobie and pass it over! 😝🤙

I’m not a huge fan of the current RB trend/craze (collab with Tudor, Zodiac, Seiko..) but the yellow dial with striped seconds hand is selling me! Sorry to hear about diameter misfortune…I’d be vexed also 🤙

The seiko × Rowing Blazers is one of the best seiko collab in recent years. I dont have one but I have the normal release in blue dial and bracelet.

I think the illusion came from the weird case shape and short lug to lug. Seiko are notorious for doing this, the 44mm turtle wear like a 42, 45mm tuna wears almost like a 40, and 40mm dresskx wears like a 37. But yes, if you measure it from 830 to 230 position it's about 38.5 mm. I did take a second measurements from the 3 to 9 o'clock position and it come out at 40mm. Again, weird case shape.

·

Seiko has disapointed me in the past. The classic is an ice diver turtle, USA exclusive version, so at twice the price of a normal turtle, I expected a good watch, one with a bit more care in construction and preparation for market. But no, it had to go back for regulation immediately as it ran way out of even Seiko's generous time keeping performance specs.

That experience has turned me off to any Seiko mechanical watches.

So yeah, I feel your pain.

·

If you measure from 3 to 9, it only measures in at 37.7mm which is why it looks so small. Putting an oddly shaped case and measuring to the outermost point of the crown from 10:30 to 4:30 is really deceptive.

·

The bezel should be 38mm on these? That's how they "wear" in my estimation. These weird shape Seikos most certainly do not wear like 40mm watches.

Anyway, it's a cool watch 😀 and not too expensive to give away if someone you like fancies it yet no garbage either. If you're anything like me and struggle with gifts ...

I agree with everything you said. The watch is well made. It really looks great...if it was a dress watch it wouldn't be an issue.

As you can see from today, my Baltic MR01 on the BOR bracelet at 36mm works just fine because it is a dress watch...

Image

However, the Seiko x RB is supposed to be a Sports watch...totally different. Perfect for someone with 7 inch wrist or smaller. I was wearing this yesterday when the Seiko x RB arrived...

Image

The Regatta is a proper 41mm and looked huge next to the RB. That's what first gave me the WTF moment. So I went and measured the RB and was stunned that it was 37.7mm on my digital calipers.

·

Sounds like they lost two of us. Unfortunately, I also have a Seiko Solar that now doesn’t keep a charge so that needs to go in for hopefully just a new battery so maybe it is more than just automatics I have lost faith in. I have Citizen Ecodrive that are older and still function properly. Hum. It is a dilemma as I usually like their watches from a design point of view but it the mechanicals aren’t up for it.... 🤔

·

So here's the wrist shot...unedited so you can see how small this one wears...

Image

I've also included the unedited shot of the Baltic MR01 so you can see they look about the same on the wrist and the Baltic is 36mm...

Image

Actually the Baltic looks a little larger because of the BOR bracelet.

No way the Seiko x RB is 40mm...just sayin'...

·

I'll see if I can get a shot with the calipers later today.

So I just got mine today and with my 7inch wrist it is perfect.

I can understand your frustration as the way they measure, apparently from crown at 4:00 across to 10:00, is a bit of a “stretch” shall we say.

Nevertheless you have a beautiful watch and if you wanna pass it to the left hand side it’ll be gladly taken off your hands.

It looks fantasic on your wrist...perfect size for a 7 inch wrist for sure.

You should also look at that Baltic MR01 if you don't have one already and are interested in a nice dress watch. The 36mm case would be perfect on your wrist. I wear mine with the bracelet to give it a little more heft.

I did the same with my Fears Brunswick Jubilee...that one is a 38mm case but the strap is thin making it look smaller on wrist, but the bracelet bulks it up a bit for me.

Thanks and I might have to look at that Baltic.

I have a couple of older watches that are 36mm and I am able to pull them off pretty well. I really think 38-40mm is my sweet spot.

I do own a 44mm watch and I wore it a lot when I was 80lbs heavier as started losing weight in 2022. I swear I lost weight in my wrist as well. I can still wear but it looks like a monster and is a little loose.
