Datejust Dilemma

So a Datejust has been on my radar for purchase for some time as a daily wear instead of my Seamaster, although I don’t think I can part with that just yet…

My question is as I live in the middle of nowhere in Scotland and can’t try one on easily is:

Are they as comfortable as they look/as the 1995 Seamaster midsize?

What year did they fit sapphire?

Is there an online sales I can trust (one that will finance some of the cost)

It will be a long term investment, should I bother finding one with full documentation and box?

Can you take a day trip to a city where you might find one to try? I think it’s fun to make an adventure out of something whenever possible. Good luck!

The Jubilee is by far the most comfortable one I’ve worn. Also the way it plays with the light is stunning.

For the kind of money the watch cost ID do the 2 hour drive

I think if you buy a datejust 1989 or later, they should have sapphire crystals... at least for the 36mm datejusts, unsure about other sizes

This in mine on a jubilee, seriously comfortable watch to wear. I’m in Aberdeen but Edinburgh and Glasgow also have ADs. Definitely travel to try these on. If your spending at this level then it’s not too far. No watch is an investment so if that’s a driver then you need to stop and think carefully. People made money during COVID purely because a sudden market popped up however lots of people bought high and are now bleeding money. So decide what you want by research and take your time. Try on if you can, walking away is also very powerful and important to give yourself head space. If you can get at AD prices than you will not loose as much as other brands but if you go to the grey market know that this is highly volatile at the moment, so buy carefully and get the watch verified. EBay do a verification service and Crono24 suspend payment until you accept that it matches the sellers description. Finance wise. Nothing on Rolex ADs because your still on wait list for these so it a bank or seller. Bank will be the lowest interest. Hope this helps.

Don’t finance a watch. Don’t do it.

That said, instead of financing, trade in your Seamaster to defray the costs.

You want a Rolex. No one says they want to daily a Datejust just because it’s comfortable. They want it because it’s a “rolly” on their wrist. I think we all get it. That said, not a good investment - especially a Datejust. Just buy when you can either pay cash+trade or straight cash.

And yes, it’s a Rolex…it’s comfortable

Totally worth it if you’re going to be spending that amount of money on a watch!
