Best Value Everyday Watch Recommendation

My Colleague at work has asked for help, he is a young man in his early 20s and is wanting to purchase his first proper luxury watch.

Budget: £2000 - £3000

Everyday watch that can be used in multiple environments.

His only preference so far was he would prefer a leather strap , but could consider a dive watch.

My ideas are the above.

I guess you guys will already know the reasons for them.

Is there anything else you could suggest🙏🏻

Without checking the list price because the watches are generally available at quite substantial discounts, I want to throw in my suggestion of a simple Baume&Mercier Clifton 3 hander dress watch which is fitted to a decent croco strap and folding buckle. The watches boast a Baumatic in house movement. I recently purchased a 5day Clifton moonphase watch that I think is very decent quality for the money spent.

All great choices. I’d lean towards Tudor first and then Oris. I don’t think you can beat the versatility of those brands or the quality for the price.

·

Seiko alpinist GMT, also Longines has some good offerings.

·

What’s his job? Any specific hobbies? These facts are critical for watch survival Eg Sinn 104 or 556 great for hospitality industry. Oris shiny links get scratched easily. Of your choices, Hamilton probably the best value GADA but I’d want the Tudor if it’s a 58. I think @dennisbible is on the money with Longines for the suggested price range otherwise checkout Nomos.

I agree , but unfortunately I didn’t put Seiko in for the reason it’s gonna be his first luxury watch and to non watch people they still don’t understand the brand enough and don’t have the appeal, I’m trying to get the most from his budget with the best value in specs too

He is working in a restaurant but he is also a Student so he is probably going to move on to a better Industry later. Nomos is a good choice I agree but not really known outside of the watch world , if your young I think he would want a little bit of luxury brand Recognition. So I feel Tudor would win of the Sinn

Check out the Raymond Weil Freelancer Diver. Comes on bracelet or strap but I really enjoy it

I think if he is working in a restaurant now and moving into other industries then a Sinn makes a lot of sense. Very durable yet can dress up in a sporty way. A used Tudor would work too.

But, how about a Monta Noble or a Traska Commuter as options to look into? Microbrands that are building top spec pieces with quite a variety at compelling prices.

Buy used.

Paid £1300 for my Quartz Aqua Terra. That'd leave him plenty for something else decent too, tho tbh there's very few situations my AT would be inappropriate for. 🤔👍

Value wise Mircobrands 💯but as a young guy I think he would want a little brand recognition as it’s still a lot of money for a young guy

Yes Aqua Terra absolutely! He does want a mechanical watch for his first proper luxury watch and that’s were Omega goes over budget 💔

·

Nomos Club maybe? Can be sporty (20 ATM), worn with a colourful strap or classy with a brown/black leather strap. Good GADA watch in that price range with an in-house movement.

·

The new Longines Conquest or Zulu 3-handers. Great GADAs

Another Junghans to consider:

Junghans Meister Driver Handaufzig

Wow that looks thin!

·

I’d go with a sinn all day every day especially if you are buying new

I did try on a black bay 54 a few days ago and that was a surprise to me how much I liked it. If used is an option they could find a nice omega that would be a step up into luxury

Being his “first” proper watch he wants it brand new 🤕

You can buy new on ebay. You know that right?

·

Would be a smarter option but when it’s your “first” your heart would also feel more special having it brand new

Then I would get a new BB58 or BB54. I am biased because I own a BB58. It is the watch that gets the most wrist time.

I used to owned one myself , yes it’s a great watch almost perfect, but unless they fix that clasp and add the T-fit I’d hold off on it for now

Yes! Lots of options for railmaster new.

That Hamilton is a looker! In my opinion it’s a strap MONSTER! And in my opinion it wins most versatile out of these.

·

NOMOS club would be a great alternative

Yes ! This has been in at least the Top 5 recommdations 👍

·

Depending on his wrist size the new Longines Conquest is a great choice.

·

A nice Longines is the perfect choice

Small wrist , thinking perhaps the Zulu spirit instead

·

Of the four there, it's Tudor first, daylight second.

People here, as "watch people" will make spirited defences of the other brands. Sometimes with merit. Sometimes because they're just one eyed about a certain brand.

But in the cold light of day, on multiple levels, it's the Tudor.
