A relic from the empire.

Unlike the Dietrich SD-1 I wore yesterday, this Vostok 710 Amfibia can’t be mistaken for a dressy skindiver. it's not really a relic from the socialist paradise since I got it new just a few years ago. It wears surprisingly like a Seiko mini-turtle.

Sorry, I just can't get on board with any Russian product these days. I know the watchmaker probably didn't have anything to do with the injustices going on now, but to wear a Russian watch today would go against what I believe. I had a Vostok and gave it away. You do you though. It's an interesting looking piece.

Eh, lets face it. Vostok watches are probably the only product that the gas station with nukes, aka Russia, can export without fear of sanctions or use of Western technology. They are indeed interesting, in a charmingly ugly duckling way, which is why I wear them. Nothing more and nothing less about it.

I have that same watch, with the same bezel. I received mine from Kyiv the day before the invasion started. I‘ve only worn it a couple times, but it is an interesting piece of watchmaking.

I think yours looks great! The strap compliments it really well. My Amphibia is one of my favorite watches.

Interesting piece. Dont mind the looks of this one and might consider one in the future when Russia start behaving again 👍

Mine was a standard 710640 that I moded with the signed crown, Rally bezel and scuba Dude case back because I was bored during the lockdowns, the parts were dirt cheap and because why not.

Nice. Mine came with the modded bezel, but I don't have the scuba dude case back or crown.

Both were bought from Meranom during the lockdowns periods because I had too much free time on my hands and some Vostoks lying around.

People are probably right to question the morality (?) Of wearing a Vostok these days for sure. I have bought several since March, but only one direct from the factory. My reasoning being, yeah, the watchmaker's in Chistopol aren't responsible for the geopolitical situation and with the sanctions, helping people keep there jobs is a good thing. Of course I never actually received that watch, lost track of it in the UAE 😭.

Being a Vostok addict, I have turned to pre-owned and vintage models and have bought exclusively from Ukraine because they could do with some cash as well (and Ukrainian second-hand sellers seem to have much better quality product!).

Additionally, I think we could all take a lesson from the Ukrainian post office who seem to be able to ship to Australia in less than 10 days... Faster than shipping from Sydney to Perth in most instances!
