I was only 2 when the 90's started but still remember the watches I had in that era, when I was 5 I got my first watch which was a flik flak watch(swatch watch for kids)
This exact 1, I'll never forget it, I loved it, it's probably why I love that Pepsi style bezel on GMT watches. Wore it till I was about 7.
The next watch was a mickey mouse watch, it was a Lorus, the one where his hands show the time.
I lost it at a friend's bday party, was sooo upset and my parents could not find it again here in South Africa
So it was replaced with a Fossil Big tic which I had through the rest of 90's and right into high school until about 2004, it was also pretty unique, never saw one like mine while I wore it and also have never seen one like mine again(can't even find a pic of it online) it had a SS case, black rubber strap but it had an orange tinted glass on it which made it stand out.
Picture this watch with a orange tint on the glass.
That was the 90's for me, I've been initiated into watches from a young age because my dad was a watch guy.
commented onOddly Shaped Watches - Your Thoughts?·
This watch is not exactly a strangely shaped watch but it is pretty odd, to me it's pretty awesome, I love the philosophy behind the watch... The fact that you can still tell time on it is a plus... i'd like it even if you couldn't 😜
The relaxed figure's stretched leg shows the hour.
The tiny plastic duck floats around to show you the minutes.
Kristof explains his inspiration for the design:
"Ironically, it took time to change the way I look at time. A couple of years ago, I read a quote by a Chinese writer, translator, linguist and philosopher Lin Yutang that I’ve kept close to my heart ever since:
'If you can spend a perfectly useless afternoon in a perfectly useless manner, you have learnt how to live'.
So when designing this watch, I took that quote as a starting point.
The quote by Lin Yutang taught me the value of doing nothing at all every once in a while.
One of the ways I love wasting time is by floating around, with my eyes closed, letting the water be my guide.
The perspective of my illustration lets you dive into time."
