Smaller watches

I am really starting to love and appreciate smaller watches (34-36mm). I remember before i got into the hobby, one of the last thing i was looking in a watch was its dimensions, now its the first thing i do! For a 3rd day in a row i am wearing this 34mm Citizen and i absolutely love how it fits my wrist (17cm). It was gifted to me from a friend, who has a collection of his own, but it was left for years in a drawer no one wearing it because it was smaller and have some damage from the years ( the lume on the hands is falling). Well now someone love its size and doesn't care about the damage (for me that adds to his character). Show us your smaller watches. I would like to take some ideas for future purchases and enjoy my coffee looking at some smaller pieces. Have a great day everyone ✌🏼

very nice watch. rarely do you see a small citizen nowadays lol

·

I wish there were more smaller Citizen's available in the west. I've got the chandler which is a good size, but would like to upgrade to something a bit more "premium". Likewise Seiko seem to have abandoned the smaller size.

Recently I've been finding myself wearing 36 and 37mm watches a lot. I have tiny wrists so this size looks good and wears well.

Yes, and its not only Citizen. Almost all watch brands advertise these sizes as a women waches and they try to make them look more feminine.

It's been the same for me with the sizes lately. I am getting more into smaller (now normal sized for me) watches. I have my eye on the Seiko SNK809 as it is 37mm and the price is great for me.

Here my smallest, the Caravelle "gold" like I like to call it, in around 32mm I believe.

Image

Actually not mine but will probably get it sometime in the future, the 34mm absolute class Junghans Max Bill manual wind.

Image

The Explorer at 35,4mm is the perfect mountain hiking companion for me.

Image

The Caravelle Sea Hunter Devil diver at 36,5 looks awesome anywhere I take it. But wont  e near water as it is from 1970 and has no longer any water resistance.

And a closer look at this 36,5mm beauty.

That's the other watch I've been wearing. Such a good size, and generally a great watch (if you can get it for a good price).

Thanks. I've been looking for alternatives or competitors of the Explorer for a long time. Hope this little knowledge can help anybody.

34mm 1960's Sovereign is my smallest and also my least expensive watch that I won on an auction via eBay, $1, it cost me 10 times that for the postage 🤣🤣🤣

Image

You would be amazed what you can find once you start looking. It's not perfect and keeps lousy time but for me it's about the looks and how it makes me feel whenever I wear it, I'm still amazed I got the watch for a dollar, so it makes me smile endlessly.

·

Even 32mm with a nice bracelet - like Patek Golden Ellipse

Small divers on my 16.75cm wrist :))

I love that watch.  With a little service it would be perfectly accurate. (I know, the service would many times the cost of the watch, but still.)

29mm is my smallest:

I have several at 30mm. And then there are the tanks:

When you have the Perfectly Sized Wrist (TM) every size watch looks good.

Old Seiko certainly used to know how to make smaller watches.

·

I'm currently looking at the Vaer A3 Atlas Navy. A 36mm auto which actually has very similar dimensions to the Seiko SNK8.

Yes, haha. Wish they will try making more of these nowadays.

My smallest watch purchase to date at 34mm (6.75 inch wrist). Still adjusting to the smaller size, no doubt. Wifey is getting tired of me asking for her opinion. Have some suede straps on order, hoping to dial up wrist presence. For now the Perlon strap is fit, for a at-home casual work day.

Thank you my friend, it's a great little watch. I need to find a good service guy to look at it, one that knows or doesn't mind working on these older movements. The guy I currently use for servicing won't touch it unfortunately, he's only fairly young in the world of watch repairs so I think he's just uncertain whether or not he can do a good job or not and for me it's not the cost of service but rather that I want it done properly, not butchered.

I figure it's lasted this many years, ticking away, that it should be looked after and care taken with the service, a little bit of history on my wrist more or less, so it deserves a little bit of special attention.

It looks to be such a simple little 1 jewel movement as well and I couldn't see it giving anyone with experience too much trouble. Everything seems to be working fine from what my untrained eye can see, so I don't think I'll need to replace, lets say the mainspring and the like, but again I'm no expert and it very well may.

Have you looked at Vario straps, in particular their Harris Tweed straps. That would suit your watch to a tee 💯 They come in other colours besides the one pictured below, this was just to give you an idea 👍

Those movements eat up oil much more quickly than fully jeweled movements.  That causes more wear. A few spots of modern oil may help regulate it.

Thank you so much. Have not heard of them until now. I'm really hoping their offerings include 19mm because that tweed is 🔥. Thank you.

Wow, I was so wrong to think no guys would wear anything less than 36, my bad. My smallest case size watch is my Breitling Chronomat 36. It was advertised as a ladies watch. But I bought it still because it fits perfectly on my 6.5” wrist. No regrets.

You know what? It's cool to man. What a deal.

I love smaller watches too. I was used to wearing slightly larger watches (40 mm) so when I got an Explorer it felt too small initially, but now it’s my favourite watch to wear most days.

Just stumbled across this. This is simplicity and understated style at its best.
