Do you take watches on loan first if you can?
Took this gbd-200 on loan from a friend to try it for a few day, because it's on my radar. I have to say the display is second to none and the watch is so light and comfortable. But there is something that just doesn't "click" with me. I don't know if it's the buttons action and sound, the response from the watch not being instant, or the color, but i think I'll pass for now.

It definitely helps a lot to make the decision and not to buy something that after a couple of weeks will end up in the watch box.

I have that one in red, very comfortable, all the funtions works well, the only down for me is the notifications, too tiny😕, so I use it in vibration mode(with the notifications I need) and when I feel it, I see my phone .
Dude! I own the watch in black. It's simply awesome. Regarding your pet peeves I'd say that you can turn off the sound and on the vibration. The response is not instant at some points, but works more than fine and it's great value for the money.
The dial draws eyes. I've even been asked which watch is it. Right now is the one that I wear the most in my three rotation watches (PRX Powermatic 80 and Omega Planet Ocean being the other ones).

The thing is i have this W-735h and i love it. It has the vibrating alarm, which i use every day. I use the timer also every day, i work out with it and it doesn't have the look of a fancy smart watch, which i like. It looks tough and i don't have to worry about it at all.
I don't loan out any of my watches so I would never ask someone to loan me theirs. I have not found a Gshock that is acceptable to me, yet I still haven't given up.
The neon yellow color is quite obtrusive which could be influencing the perceived girth of the watch. Perhaps another color would remedy that.

It is not. That's a reflection of the light in that photo.

It is a bit strange color for my taste, yes, but i don't have friend who has the blue one 😁
