Do you like Citizen watches ?

My dads wears a citizen and has done for many years. I have an ecodrive and love it, although think that’s because of the connection with my dads

Never see any posts about citizen watches, what’s everyone’s thoughts on them?

Citizen has a varied catalog and includes watches that are A,B,and C.

So I pick D) YES

·

Citizen isn't as popular in the watch community because much of their stuff is quartz. In the real world Citizen is more popular than Seiko, because of the high quality of their Eco-Drive movements, and availability.

Yeah I really like the ecodrive. Why do more brands not lean that way, or do they ?

Seiko and Casio have solar movements, and La Joux-Perret now has a Swiss made solar movement. A few brands use either Seiko(Epson), or Citizen(Miyota) solar movements, and TAG is the first to use LJP's solar movement.

I think Citizen has done the best job marketing their solar movements, but as the Company that first developed them, it makes sense.

What I find amusing is that people rave about Seiko developing the first(not really) quartz watch, but ignore that Citizen developed the first solar quartz watch.

I have more Citizens than any other brand. From vintage to series 8, all great watches

·

I've got 2 (so far.... Keeping my eye out for another)

I like the Tsuki Yomi A-T and the Attesa Collections. They are on a larger size >40mm but they offer all the functions from Moon phase to Perpetual Calendar. Definite bang for the buck!

I have 5 #citizen and liken them to Toyota....kinda boring, but with some special unique surprises,

BUT, quality, reliability and fit and finish is 2nd to none. Citizen will stand the test of time till the end of time much as Toyota will. Anyways, that's my humble comparison to real life counterpart.

Very happy especially with the Nighthawk.

For some reason Seiko gets more respect. I do not understand why. Citizen makes excellent affordable watches. I have 4 of them, ranging from about $175 to $1200. Three of the four are eco drives.

But I think their advertisement that their eco drives never needs to change a battery is not accurate. My oldest Citizen is 19 years old and after being in a dark place for about 5 years, stopped. I tried to re-charge it for about 3 days in the sun, but it would not hold a charge overnight. So, I replaced the capacitor a year ago, and charged it. Now it is going strong. It just does not need a battery change every 2 years, but more like 20 years.

Great watch. I think the real question is, how much are you willing to spend on a Citizen watch? Saw this 38mm Super Titanium Eco-Drive +-1s annually limited to 500 pieces for USD 7,400

They’re like dogs; all dogs are good dogs. All watches are good watches.

Have nothing against Citizen. It’s just that, so far, when I browse their offerings, I have yet to find a single thing that makes the cut. I’m sure I will one day.

Unwittingly, I became a big fan of Citizen. My first Citizen watch was the Pepsi Promaster. I liked the watch very much and it regularly received high praise in the watch community so I picked one up but barely wore it because it was on the silicone strap and I just don’t vibe with the silicone straps. Then I put it on a jubilee bracelet and the watch transformed into something else altogether. And I was happy.

Then I saw the Promaster Marine which had the green dial with a gun metal type case. I thought I could use a green-dialed watch and the Citizen Eco-Drive Promaster was certainly a solid watch so I picked one up and then added a KFM hybrid band from Strapcode. And I was happy.

Not long after that, I came cross a new color variant for the Promaster. It’s a gorgeous orange dial with a blue silicone strap. I thought that it would be a fun watch for the beach. Solar-powered Eco-Drive with 200m of water resistance. What could be bad? I then put it on a oyster style bracelet. And I was happy.

A fellow watch enthusiast friend of mine sent me a pic one day of Citizen’s new Unite With Blue version of the Promaster. The look of the dial is mesmerizing as if gazing out upon the ocean under a moonlit sky, the white rehaut really made the dial pop, surrounded by a blue and green bezel. I was hooked. Joma had a great sale and it arrived in no time at all. It too was thrown on a jubilee bracelet (my favorite style). And I was happy.

One day my lovely daughter was looking and my watch collection and says:

“Dad, these watches all look the same.”

And I replied: “Yeah, how bout that”.

And then she began to tell me which watch was her favorite one (the Seiko Speedtimer SSC813).

So there I was talking with my daughter about my watch collection.

And I was happy. 😀

Yes! I wore a Citizen every day for about 5 years straight. Then one day, while resetting the watch for day-light savings, the crown popped straight out of the case! Not knowing if it was repairable, and not being near any place that could actually repair it, away to the interwebs I went to shop for a new watch.

And that's when I fell down the watch rabbit hole. 😉

A few years later, I finally circled back to Citizen and picked up the ISO certified Eco Drive Promaster Diver's watch. It's a great beater. And if I was to ever, you know, actually scuba dive again (not likely, but you never know), I'd wear the Promaster before I'd wear my Omega or Tudor dive watch...or Seiko diver for that matter. Some of the best lume I've seen, and it's an ISO certified diver's watch too boot.

That Unite With Blue is gorgeous, and the jubilee is the cherry on top 😍!
