Cheap watch for a friend

A friend of mine really wants to get himself a nice watch, but he’s a real cheapskate. What’s a good, respectable watch he could get himself for around $50-$100?

I actually recommended a Timex Weekender already. He didn’t like it.

A G-Shock? Something like a GWM5610 is around $100 on Amazon.

what type of style is he looking for?

Either minimalist or some sort of tool watch.

There are 2 watches that pop up to my mind.

  1. Timex Expedition - Quartz (there are different color options for it and the one below is for about 100$). I have one and I love it.

2. Seiko SNXS79K - Automatic (before it was about 100$ now it is nearing the 150-180$ mark). The Seiko is the one of the best automatic watches at that price point PERIOD. If your friend can slightly increase his budget then the Seiko is a well respected classic.

On Amazon here in Sweden this Citizen is being advertised for about $75

And it’s an ecodrive so he won’t need to worry about battery changes.

Merkur has a few options under $100.00.  Not a tool watch, but a good watch.  I have enjoyed it.

Just bring  him to Walmart or Kohls and leave him there until he finds a watch.

·

Casioaks retail for $100 if that's his style. Multiple color variations as well.

For fun, there are a lot of Swatches out there.

Hey @BogBass, I can suggest a few options, one for each extreme of your budget and both are incredible watches, Beautiful, well-built, and classic for watch collectors.

At the top of your budget, I can suggest you take a look at the Seiko 5 line, there are innumerous models with different dial colors, some even with complex patterns, just search Seiko 5 on Amazon.com and pick the one that matches better your friend's taste. Here are 2 examples:

I remember this video of WatchFinder (if you don't know this Youtube Channel is THE PLACE TO GO to watch videos):

Now, at the base of your budget, I can suggest you take a look at the Casio F91W/A168 under the classic line. It costs about USD 20.00 each.

These watches scream the 80s, in a very cool way. I remember this video from a lifestyle YouTuber (Brian Sacawa) posting this video about this watch.

This one is a bit better:

I hope that these suggestions are useful.

Either minimalist or some sort of tool watch.

Looks like you got a number of tool watch recommendations.   One I might add is the Orient Defender.    It's over the $100 cap at around $145. But great value for the money.

On the minimalist / bauhaus look.  Braun makes a few in the 50 - 100 price point.
