I would say your comparision nicely summarizes MOST swiss vs MOST Japanese watches. While i love the superb quality and the great prices of japanese watches, i do believe that they lack the character of a Swiss watch. It is really tough for me to think of an iconic japanese watch the likes of rolex's datejust or the cartier tank. I have nothing against the Japanese watches, i do own some myself but for me Swiss/other European watches are in a different category.
At that price range, i would suggest Timex Marlin. There are different models you can chose from. My three favorites are:
Marlin Automtic California dial (250$)
Timex Marlin Automatic x peanut take care (270$)
Marlin Automatic x Peanuts Featuring Snoopy Beagle Scout (260$)
The appeal of a watch and the price are definitely connected somehow.
Me and my mum fight about this topic all the time. For her, she looks at the price then she looks deeply at the item. For me it is different, I look at the item (most probably a watch) then I look at the price and to be honest this works really well for me, because watch appeal last much longer than price appeal.
