I’ve fallen into the Etsy money pit

I blame the knowledgeable and enabling WatchCrunch community for introducing me to so many different ways to spend my money.  My most recent foray has be into the world of bespoke handmade watch straps. Did you know, you can actually speak to the artisans and make requests so the goods you purchase and perfect for you?

Well, after a handful of attempts to find a perfect strap for my SLGH009 I received just this morning the gray canvas one pictured and I am over the moon 🙂. I ordered it about two weeks ago from Vietnam and it’s just beautiful.  How cool to have the options we have these days.

For anyone interested here is the compay info from Etsy. I had never heard of them before, just found them while shopping but they have been great. I even spoke with the company to iron out an issue or two and they were wonderful and very responsive/accommodating.

Good choice, looks great!! Now you can buy a watch for the other strap, would a linen dial be over the top!! You are welcome 😉

·

Yeah that’s bang on. Etsy is a dangerous habit when it comes to straps and leather goods, I agree.

·

I bought a green leather strap from him about a month ago. It is nice!

·

Welcome to the trap!  I work with so many leather artists on Etsy. Once you go custom, you don’t go back.

·

Great choice! That strap looks fantastic on the watch!! ✨

I love all the artisans you can find on Etsy. I have had straps made for me from artisans in Ukraine, Vietnam, and other places.

I would just avoid purchasing watches on Etsy. Mostly bad experiences with Etsy purchases - so many fakes and frankenwatches on that platform - it is truly a minefield.

Great timing on your post! Looking for a custom strap maker for my GFs Cartier, which seemingly takes a 14.5 mm strap… this looks like to be a very, very good seller!

I never thought of buying a watch from Etsy, now I surely won’t!

Looks amazing! I’m trying to find a special leather strap for my Day-Date. I’ve found an artisan here in Spain that works exotic leathers and are amazing quality https://atelierferrer.com/

I've found a few interesting items there, but the bad purchases outweighed the good. Some I was able to get refunded and the others I gave away to friends who wanted them regardless of provenance.

This vintage Citizen Bullhead is cool even though I'm certain it must be a redial as I don't think the originals were in this vibrant orange - I kept this one just because it's cool looking and stuck it on a bund strap Cliff Booth-style:

This Glashutte Spezimatic looks like the real deal and the seller was really cool.

This was another cool seller that I purchased a couple of watches from - these are all original but rather unusual no-name simple movements.

So you can find some interesting things on Etsy, but you really have to be careful.

Love the pushers on that Citizen.  I've become a big fan of Konstantin Chaykin, in particular the Mouse King watch.  And I think a big part of the reason is that the crown is the mouse's crown on the top of the dial, just super cool looking.  Maybe one day I'll be able to by a $30k watch.

Thanks! It’s a very nice piece, a tourbillon that isn’t worth a fortune. It’s an Era Prometheus  https://prometheus.eratimepieces.com/

It took me a while, but now that I have found the right straps I am so happy with how the piece looks.  I’ve always loved it, and I think it looks great on the bracelet, but I’m a strap guy.

If you want to make a trip over the pond to the US I’m pretty sure my AD still has one in the showroom :-)

I know I’m biased, but you’re going to love it.  I think it’s one of the best offerings GS has.  Keep me posted!!

·

Thanks for sharing!! I am about to fall into the same pit haha!

Not to feed the beast, but check out my list of strap vendors, including several on Etsy, but also some wonderful independents including a Watch Cruncher...

I did have one bad experience with a strap from a seller on Etsy who also sells on eBay. The cheap "leather" strap looked nothing like the picture. Should have listened to the reviews...

Thanks for sharing!  I suppose it’s better to get more watch straps instead of more watches 🙂

You too?

I’d be even deeper in should I only be wearing a single watch for a year.
