Reacting with the 🔥 emoji to every picture like this is Instagram. That's my latest pet peeve about the watch community here. 😂
Remember when Max advertised Watch Crunch in his videos as "the platform for enthusiasts that have more to talk about watches than fire emoji"? Yeah... I guess times change heh.
But in general I agree with your sentiment. Snobs dismissing anything that isn't Swiss, or anything below a certain price, because if it isn't expensive it can't be good. The same people who buy into paid influencers brainwashing and spend hundreds on straps or watch boxes made in China with an even more revolting markup. But if it's expensive, it must be good, right? Right? The irony...
My stepdad was always into vintage watches and Hi-fi and these two passions rubbed off on me from a young age. However, it's only after a life shattering breakup that I dived into the watch rabbit hole and its associated social media, first as a distraction and then as a way to rebuild myself and my confidence. My first automatic purchase doesn't really commemorate any big life achievement but just coming back to the surface after months of depression.
I prefer no day/date because it's a useless complication for my lifestyle. Especially on a dress watch like this. But sadly it's part of the 5 of Seiko 5 so it's inevitable. 😩
Have you tried the MM200? While I can't pull off the Sumo or the MM300, I find my SPB187 to be a great fit on my 16.5cm wrist. Don't get me wrong, it's still a large dive watch at 47.5mm L2L, but it looks proportionate thanks to the magic of Seiko's case design. Albeit my wrist is wide and flat (54mm) so YMMV.
