One watch collection

I have watches that I just don't wear, and for the longest time, I have felt that I could just have a one-watch collection (OWC). What do I do with the couple that has sentimental value, which means more than the ones that have really dollar value? What or how have you dealt with this dilemma for those who have downsized or felt they want a OWC? Thanks

I have 6 watches that have been gifted over the years, only one isn't in use but obviously I need to keep it. I would possibly get a small watchbox for them and put it in a drawer/ cupboard in the bedroom. Remove and dispose of the batteries from any quartz and put notes under the pillows of the battery number.

Me?

I considered gifted watches as their own thing, not part of MY watch collection.

I considered watches best left for kids as toys.

That immediately pared my collection from 25 to 17.

Then I retired a quartz chronograph that still tells time but has a cracked crystal & broken chronograph. It was cheaper to get a new watch.

I gifted my beaten up G-Shock to my teen after he used his dead phone as an excuse to miss curfew.

I will never get down to a one watch collection, but using these technicalities & mental gymnastics to make my collection seem smaller than it is has been a godsend for my mental health.

The eye rolls from the wife are a NICE bonus.

Some of this comment is real. Some is just for laughs.

Good luck figuring out which is which. 🤣😉

My valiant efforts to pare down my watch collection resulted in a total reduction of their numbers from 16 to 30.

Inherited and gifted ones are not part of my collection as such, they're part of me. Same for a couple of sentimental ones. The rest form my 'collection' and even then I doubt I could get it down to just one. Maybe a dozen?

Either way, there's really no such thing as a one watch collection. It's just one watch.

Somehow this really helped me with the way I view my collection and my plans to get more watches lol. Especially the mental gymnastics around gift watches which I still cycle in the rotation even if they wouldn’t be my initial pick.

I love the watches I've been gifted and wear them semi-regularly. However, like you say, they weren't my pick. They are their own collection, not my collection. Although, if the wife decided I deserved a Speedy, I've dropped enough hints that it would be part of MY collection. LOL

Cheers & MTFBWY!

Agreed!

My wife got me a wooden watch from Jord, and while I wouldn’t have gotten out of my way to buy it myself it does have cool details like using wood for the case and tiger eye for the dial. It uses a Seiko quartz too so it’s been lasting for a while. It also features our names engraved on the back so I wear it to most weddings as my “wedding watch”

Although it’s getting competitive with some of the other dress peices I’ve gotten 😆

3 Watches in my collection at the moment, gifted and sentimental timepieces not included. I’ve thought about getting an AT and calling it off a few times. I believe it is possible.
