Possible Baltic Bezel QC issues?

My Baltic Aquascaphe just arrived, super exited and the bezel clicks loudly per the attached video. Not when turned, but when pressed down on slightly. Please take a look and see what you think. https://youtu.be/E5Uwg7ecpKM?si=TvVSeLibiARO-yVz

The clicking only happens at the 6 o'clock on the bezel, when pressed on, bezel lined up at 12 o'clock.

Is this normal? I don't think it is.

I already emailed Baltic tonight as well about possibly exchanging it, as it's a lot of money for me.

I always seem to have timing bezel issues.

Oh well.... Otherwise it's a beautiful watch and I love everything else about it.

Ok, that’s not good. My brother has an Aquascaphe, and I have handled it (a pleasure) but his bezel definitely doesn’t do that!

What a shame!

I hope you get quick resolution. 👍

Cheers!

Thanks. I think it's just a QC issue that was overlooked.

Yep. Bummer.

But be of good cheer, the end result will be very pleasing!

1st world problems. The rest of the watch is absolutely stunning. Fits very comfortably as well. Really happy otherwise.

I have several watches that do this, a Seiko, an Elliot Brown, a Lorier, and an Orient. The EB is roughly the same MSRP as the Baltic I believe.

They all only do it on one specific spot/area. All of these watches also line up perfectly, and I have had no issues.

Some do, some don't, it is resting on a click "spring" after all. And most bezels have notched, bumps, etc on the underside for alignment, so makes since it does it on just one side.

If it doesn't I'd think the bezel to case would be almost too tight, and would get gummed up with sand, grit, etc.

Case in point for me, my Momentum Sea Quartz 30 had a bezel that was so tight not only was it hard to move on wrist, but it got gummy quick.

A rinse off, and tons of breaking in, it's fine now.

But that is just my guess. YMMV.

Or maybe all my watches are broken, 😆.

Sorry about the bezel, but I'm sure they'll sort you out. Even though this one might get returned, can we get an on wrist shot? Beautiful watch! How does that bracelet feel/wear?

It looks & feels amazing. Perfect size, nice and light.

This is my first Beeds of rice bracelet and it is very comfortable, similar to mesh.

Can't catch it in a good light indoors under a desk lamp. Want to see it under sunlight.

I really like the packaging too. I have never had a watchbox this nice before.

Perfect fidget spinner for those of us with adhd . . .

Hi Ash, that clicking sound isn't normal. It might be a quality control issue. I'm pretty sure their customer service will take care of you. Congrats on your new watch, and wear it in good health. 🙌

·

There is always going to be issues with almost all watches produced mostly by machines. Quality control has a direct correlation with the cost of production, profit margins and percentage of hands and eyes on the product.

If a machine pumps out 2 million chopsticks per day costing 5c each, almost zero quality control exists relative to the price of the product. I guess the question is, at the price you paid for the watch, is there an acceptable amount of defects that may or may not occur? Take it up with the manufacturer if your not happy.

On a side note...I bet Christopher Wards QC is better than Rolex...

How strange

·

I've got a watch that has a bezel that does something similar. But it's a custom build I did, case was only $70, so I don't worry about it, hasn't been an issue. But for what your Baltic cost, yeah, I would definitely cry them about warranty coverage.

·

My certina ds diver does this too, I don't think its a huge issue and I've kinda accepted it as a feature rather than a bug. Doesn't affect the function in any way.

·

I jusr saw your video and tried it on mine. Definitely did not do that sound when pressed on man. Sounds like a QC issue. But Baltic are easy to talk to

·

Ooo. The bezel action sounds like the Spinnaker Fleuss I owned for a couple months, not the best. I would think Baltic would be better.

As far as the bezel rocking, I don’t think it did that, and none of my Seiko divers or Tudor do it either. But my Rolex does, it rocks just a little that you can notice it, I don’t know why I pressed on it but I did. Doesn’t click though.

I think you’re probably fine, if the bezel working fine.

Reply from Baltic:

"This noise is due to the way the Aquascaphe is assembled: there's technically a microscopic gap between the bezel and the case, to enable it to turn smoothly and without scratching.

This isn't something to worry about. I could have you send it here but you'd get it back in the same condition.

I remain at your disposal if you need anything else"

It's not the end of the world at the end of the day. Bezel operates fine otherwise. I just thought it was strange as I have not had this happen on any of my other divers.

Bracelet sized, watch is perfect otherwise.

It’s nice to see #baltic being so accommodating of their customers. I’ve heard otherwise from other microbrands. Cheers, enjoy your Aquascaphe. I love the way it looks on the beads of rice
