Oris Diver TT1 early 2000s

Hi guys,

I am looking to buy a mates watch for approx 600USD. The watch has been serviced and I love it a lot. I just need a new bezel and bracelet(definitely bracelet at least).

Any thoughts on tropical dial watches for that price? Man this Oris so beautiful

Well worn my friend 👍🍻

If in just 20 years - if not less - the hands are tarnished like that, this probably has at least once leaked quite badly, or Oris used rubbish materials. I bet no one would sell it for less than 600, I wouldn't even pay half that for a mangled modern Oris.

·

I would take it to a watchmaker first to see if it's gonna last you or if it's badly damaged. Keep in mind that for that price you can get a new Hamilton Khaki and it will last you forever, or a Seiko Prospex like the King Turtle. And maybe 500/550 USD is a better price if it's not badly damaged.

·

Yeah I’m not totally sold on the watch, for that price anyway. As someone else mentioned it looks to have suffered some water damage at some point, so I would have it inspected first. Also for that amount of cash you could get yourself a really nice diver, even a Hamilton diver.

Just my opinion of course, it‘s your money and your choice in the end, you have to be happy nobody else 🙏🏻

·

Do you have any idea who serviced it? I’m guessing it was a local person and not Oris. I had my Speedy Pro recently serviced by Omega for a non-functional pusher. They fixed that, polished it to new, and replaced the hands, crystal and gasket, all of which were pristine when I sent it! (I got the “old“ parts back in a baggie). I can’t confirm, but I imagine Oris service does something very similar. Have you taken off the caseback and had a look at the movement?

My $.02, pass on this watch. It’s probably going to set you back a lot more than $600 before you are done.

You could buy a lot of watch for that price and still stay Swiss. Like Hamilton or Tissot.

Bad deal IMO

I suspect most of the comments on this ruined your excitement. Truth be told that Oris TT1 looks like it's definitely had some adventures and shows the battle scars to prove it. However, out of curiosity (and I'm a bit bored today) I did some digging and the price may not be as out of wack as many think. I couldn't find a TT1 from the early 2000s for less than $1000 the cheapest I found were these:

https://www.chrono24.ca/oris/tt1-divers--id22891739.htm

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/384720972379?hash=item5993282a5b:g:iocAAOSwDeBiAS3j

These look like they have less wear but neither have that beautiful yellow/gold dial either and $600 is significantly less than $1000.

In short, I would agree with all the comments if your are looking purely at value for you dollar. There awesome new watches to be found for $1000 with better specs than the TT1. However, I also get that buying old watches is not really about value for your dollar.

If your confident in what's important (time keeping accuracy) and dig the battle scars on the watch you may likely be very happy. I do really like that dial and the blue bezel. Finding a replacement bezel could be a challenge though if that's your plan (bear in mind I don't know it's measurements).

I can imagine what it looked like new. It is a great color combination. But, it is in really tough shape. I would probably pass at that price unless you have a line on some discounted parts.

·

Not going to add anything here but I would definitely get a price on a new bezel, bracelet, etc before purchasing. How well does it run? Agree with others that there may have been some water ingress. Have you seen the movement? How well is it running - have you seen it on a timegrapher? Not going to say "do not buy it" but make sure you are making an informed choice.

Spot on

Hi guys,

I have read all your comments and I did not realise about the water damage! So thank you for the heads up! I have seen the watch in person and it looks fabulous except the bezel and all of that (bezel plus bracelet) would set me back a bit.

I am very keen on a hamilton as I already own a brand new oris. So maybe I will sell my SKX009(like it but not for inflated price I bought it for) and getmyself a hamilton khaki. Been thinking on that for a while.

I guess I am mainly concerned about previous water damage but I know the watch maker he went to and heard he is really good and he needed to replace some kogs etc.

Thanks again for all your help

Thank you so much for your input!

I think I will go a new hamilton.

The watch is amazing but I like things to look new ish ..not as heavily worn as this. Once again I love the Seiko monster esque look but maybe not for that price.

I did not put it on a grapher but it has recently  been serviced and you can see the new cogs through the back. I guess I will leave the watch and get a new khaki;)

·

The cogs may be turning but what's the amplitude, the beat error? How healthy is it? Not saying don't... but be careful.

At the end of the day it’s your choice, you buy whatever you like, but I think you’ve made a good decision going with the Hamilton, excellent watches 👍

If you like those bold colors and aren't married to wanting the Swiss Movement I would point you towards Zelos Watches. I think some of their watches have a very similar vibe and a few utilize Swiss Movements.

Actually Second Hour Watches are likely more in line with that Oris, https://www.secondhour.com.au/shop

Thank you for the advice. I had a look and those are some nice watches!!

Hey @chronotriggered … any suggestion for someone considering an old Oris? 😂

Yes - don’t bother. A vintage certified Oris pin-lever movement is effectively a wasp with a diamond-tipped stinger, impressive but will hurt you when agitated.

Modern Oris have got it right. I like the TT1, and I like that TT1, just not for that price. I would keep it as is, maybe change up the glass. In all seriousness - this one has the classic ETA 2824 workhorse which is easily serviced. It probably won’t be the revision -2, but it will be a good for a long time. I did state that in an earlier comment, but I was shadowbanned over the Easter weekend and therefore it was invisible, and was only too aware when everybody repeated the question as to how much for a bezel replacement. I deleted it not long after.
