Micro Tournament Round 1 Day 3: Studio Underd0g Vs. Trafford

Trafford was done dirty 😂

Very tough first round matchup. I hope enough check them out. IE, the watch in the poll may end up in my collection at some point.

·

Know Trafford will lose, but voting based solely as a Texan 😆😂. Go Trafford!

Also that Mockingbird dial, 😋 hmmm🤌🏻. 🔥

Studio Underd0g uses Seagull calibers, Trafford uses Miyota series 9. I believe Trafford designs will prevail in time while SU will not.

I really like that Trafford offers both a quartz and Miyota option. In fairness to SU, the new series two uses a SW210.

·

Based on current and past offerings I voted for Studio Underd0g. Definitely some unique and fun designs. I am looking forward to what Trafford has coming up and maybe next year they can get past the 1st round or further.

·

RIP trafford

This is a tough matchup, but I’ve seen the SU Watermelon in person and it didn’t do much for me. I’ve also tried on the Trafford in the pole pic… and pics don’t do it justice. Gotta go Trafford even though there’s no way they’re winning this one.

studio underdog

·

I’m a bit biased on this one. Studio Underd0g offers fun and unique pieces. Gotta give them this one! But I’ll be checking Trafford out in the near future.

·

I’m biased as I’ve just bought a pizza party, but judging on all merits I’d have to say studio underdog. Even if they’re “the watermelon watch” to a lot of people and not much else yet, it’s a rare thing to have an ‘iconic’ or at least instantly recognisable model this early on.

·

The dials of the Studio Underdog are just awesome!

·

Trafford.

For me, #studiounderd0g wins, it's not even close. The level of fun & creativity they bring to the watch world is second to none

One thing that has stood out so far this year is how many fans take to the comments and how said comments are usually heavily focused on the trailing brand. Any one of these threads is probably the most popular on WC for that brand, which in itself is a win I suppose. I do hope folks are shopping the brands and showing them the love regardless of tough the algorithm match up is.

I do think that no matter who will win the tournament, they will at least get some nice exposure to boost their brands

I hope so. Last year @Formex highlighted the victory, which was very nice to see. There are probably a couple brands that are large enough already, but we can look at many examples in previous years that, very unlikely related to this, seemed to gain popularity, at least on WC.

Would have picked Studio Underd0g, but they lost me with the pizza watches. Trafford, on the other hand, have made me re-consider my hatred of GMT watches as their upcoming GMTs look incredible.

Those GMTs look really interesting! Have you seen anything about pricing or movement?

·

Poll closed for this matchup. Congratulations to Studio Underd0g!

·

Thanks for including my little brand in the contest. SU make some really fun watches :) I appreciate all of the comments!

Thanks! Really looking forward to sharing more about the gmt. They will be sub $1k, probably around $800, and use the miyota 9075

I certainly appreciate the exposure, even if I was going against studio underdog!

Well, I had never heard of Trafford, now I am hovering over the ‘buy’ button - so, not really a loss for those guys. Good exposure to what looks like a great brand.

Thanks friend!

I’m just saying this will get more wrist time on more people’s wrists than a 🍕

That said, I understand the match up and the Underd0g win (although that’s a misnomer in this tourney)

I appreciate you! Hope you’re enjoying that mockingbird!

Knew before I picked that I was on the losing end of this one. As much as I am fond of the Studiounderd0g offering, they just feel a little too much of a novelty. I think that over time that may change, and I do like them, I felt like Trafford deserved the vote here, as a more serious endeavor, dedicated to the community.

I appreciate that, Mike!

Hopefully we both end up being sustainable and making fun watches for a long time!

Absolutely. They’re two different Watch companies with two different design languages.

Quoting from Hamilton, the world is wide enough
