Let’s See And Hear About Your Engraved Case Back

Many brands these days offer free engraving and other brands like Rolex leave the case back a canvas for engraving. How many of you get your watches engraved and what is the story, if you don’t mind sharing?

For the first time I got a watch engraved; specifically, for this Farer Mansfield I sought a specific number for an anniversary and used one of my favorite Sandman quotes from one of DC’s best characters. I never plan on selling watches, so I buy for me, not the next owner, though I do mentally struggle with the idea of engraving. When I buy secondhand, depending on the engraving, it can feel like I’m buying someone else’s bad tattoo. I am currently facing this for a watch I’m eyeing right now.

What about you? Let’s see those case backs. Kind of related; do you also seek specific serials if given the chance? Birthdays, anniversaries, etc?

No engraving for me -- I've found that it rarely pays, especially since you won't see it most of the time.

No engraving for me. Love Sandman but the best movie watch engraving was on Doctor Strange’s JLC…”Time will tell how much I love you”. Sheesh, who’s cutting onions?

Have two myself.

One for anniversary (Lorier Neptune), the other because it's Magnum approved. (Momentum Sea Quartz).

The Guy Fawkes Rhyme fits in multiple ways. Only day the church my wife and I wanted to get married at was open, plus it fits with one aspect of my job lol.

The Sea Quartz was just for fun, and for the first batch Momentum offered it free.

Pretty sure some here have seen them before, but I'll post pics again since you asked so nicely 😊.

Love the Guy Fawkes quote and that it ties into your wedding. Also love V for Vendetta, so it’s doubly awesome.

I love engraving, but only if you're sure enough that you won't sell the watch in the future

·

I would engrave if the watch was meant as a gift 🤙❤️

·

Farer does a great job with this.

Had my Rolex engraved as an heirloom. Last name in the center with larger font, with my first name and year acquired at the 12 o’clock position in a gentle arc to follow the case back perimeter. When I hand down each of my watches to my kids, I’ll add their name and year given at the 6 o’clock spot.

I think I got lucky #1 on the serial # for my blue glacier. It’s just a run of 255 total and there is no limited number on caseback however, so I’m only guessing

My Kurono has a nice Kanji signature from the maker on the back

But - So far nothing is engraved by me but I like the idea for watches I’ll never sell.

Someone should just engrave “the time is on the other side”

I engraved only one watch. It's my Santos Two Tone. And it's the watch I bought in Gran Canaria on our honeymoon trip. This watch is definitely not for sale unless I'm struggling hunger and thirst. That's why I'm very happy I engraved it and absolutely don't care whether it`s worth less now.
