Have you ever scratched your mineral/handles watch glass?

I recently found a mini scratch that you can only see if you look pretty close. I'm having hard time babying my watches and sometimes hit something. I'm becoming kind of scared of scratching the non-saphire glass.

What are your thoughts and hardlex stories 🤔🤔

I've worn one watch for ages, and most of its scratches were from my time in the military. Currently I don't worry about scratches much. It's really not an issue.

·

I have quite a few scratches on my mineral glass watches. And several on sapphire

·

Yes, I put a fairly deep scratch in a Seiko crystal. It happened several years ago and I don’t have any photos of the scratch. I had the crystal replaced with a sapphire one.

I’ve never scratched a handle.

What is the cost of replacing one? If you can say, thanks

It was $80.

As an acrylic dude, don't mind scratches 😂.

I have around ten Seiko watches with hardlex and I haven’t put a scratch on one of them yet. I hope I haven’t jinxed myself 🤣

I've got some too! Already replaced a deep scratched tissot, but scratched it again 😂

Have you tried Polywatch?

Not yet. I'm planning to

·

It gets easier to accept the scratches the more wear and scratches you get on it. Polywatch and polishing cream does the trick. Wear your watch freely, that’s what they’re meant for 👍

·

I feel you and know how disconcerting it is to scratch a crystal. I’ve learned to take pleasure in using polywatch. I e also scratched sapphire crystal and it hurts but eff it all these watches are meant to be worn and earn battle scars. So I’ve shifted my perspective to own and accept the flaws and scratches. It’s the scars the make the oak so majestic and beautiful after all.

It happens

I have scratched mineral/hardlex crystals. The pain is that Polywatch won’t help. I have watches with acrylic crystals and for those Polywatch does wonders.

·

Polywatch is your friend. I would rather scratch a hardlex/mineral crystal. It is easy to remove the scratch in most cases (no pun intended). Sapphire crystals don't scratch as easily but they can shatter, and that means a replacement.

·

Just part of life. Scratches happen

·

Over the years I’ve learned a type of sonar around my left wrist 😁 preventing so called bumps/damage lol

·

Yeah scratch my orient ray … I was holding too many luggage and it was deep long scratch .. I let it when it’s really bad I’ll switch to sapphire with a top hat .. that’s the beauty of owning a seiko there are aftermarket parts to mod it..

If your afraid of scratches then stay away from Moonswatch.. I have not done anything ..it has more scratches then me beating up my Seiko

·

Yep, had to change it, hit it pretty had , I actually scratched the hardlex and the insert, changed it for a sapphire and a ceramic insert, looks pretty good.

·

Dude that watch looks great! That hardlex is what is holding me back from getting one. I ain’t had any luck with hardlex. I feel like it’s the worse thing you can put on a watch. I’ve had better luck with everything else. When it’s a 85$ SNK805 or something like that it’s one thing but when you’re spending 4 to 6 hundred dollars that is just unexceptable for me. I don’t know what it is with hardlex but it seems to scratch on everything. I think I scratched mine on my freaking pillow😂seriously I’ve had better luck with a cheap timex expedition with regular mineral crystal. Great watch though it really looks good!

Scars build character.

I scratched the hardlex on my Seiko SNZG13K1. Replaced the hardlex for $10+ then sold it right away, no regret. Always bought watches with sapphire ever since, less worry on my mind.

For the price Seiko is asking for their GMT they should have used sapphire. Most microbrands were already able to put sapphire on their watches even with less price than the new Seiko GMT.

·

I feel your pain. I put a scratch in a Bulova Precisionist that my wife got me as a wedding present. Too small for other people to notice, but I knew it was there, and I couldn’t ignore it.

I have an Arnie and a Mini Turtle both with hardlex. I brutally scratched the Arnie twice within a month of having it (right on the little digital display of course) but haven't scratched the Mini Turtle even though it's my most worn watch.

·

Yup, all my watches have scratches on crystal case etc. I don't baby my watches and it shows. Between my military service, active lifestyle and general carelessness it's natural ig

If I'm too scared to wear my watch and enjoy it, then at least for me it means I shouldn't have bought it. Obviously not everyone is the same, this is just for me

·

I have scratched almost every watch of mine that has hardlex/mineral crystal. No bad scratches but still scratched.

·

Scratches are part of the wearing experience. Relax and enjoy.

Hardlex crystals (Seiko propietary mineral glass) can only be polished with a lapping machine or similar polishing machine...no poliwatch! that´s only for acrylics. Hardlex will scratch, and saphire will shatter. I have experinced both.🥺

That's incorrect. Polywatch do a glass polish compound that's works on hardlex. I've used it on my seiko presage cocktail time.

I sort of figure that if something is infamous for doing whatever, eventually whatever is going to happen. In some cases it's better just to "roll with the punches," and try to appreciate that kind of wear and tear. I have a beloved Citizen with mineral glass that has developed a scratch or two, in the course of my work and travel as a photographer, and I've come to value those marks.
