Custom Watch Storage - Phase 1

Fello Crunchers - I am new here and love all the content, community and of course watches!

Alright...

Reclaiming wood, antiques and other materials is a hobby I dove into a few years back and I'm always looking for a fun project 😮.

My watch collection has also grown over the years, and I seem to keep buying more and more 12 slot storage boxes.  Current wearable collection at 37 - yes, all get wrist time.  Looking at the multiple boxes in my office was getting old and causing anxiety.  (Maybe I should just downsize the collection - topic for another time)

A few months back I started hunting for a chest, drawers, box or whatever called to me to build a custom box.  Well, here it is...

This is an antique Machinist Box, which I plan to clean up and refinish into an all-inclusive storage unit 💪.

If anyone has content, pictures or tips on such a project please share.  I have a loose idea in my head at the moment...

Measures 25.5x13x12 inches

Looking forward to sharing my progress in a Phase 2 post!

Yes, I have read through this blog before and was part of the inspiration behind the project.  I should be able to get close to all of mine in this box.  We shall see how it goes...Thank you for sharing.

I always thought an old card catalog cabinet from a library might make an interesting watch box, but if you can find one, they're pretty expensive. Might be cheaper to build one in that style.

Love it! can't wait to see the finished product. I'm experiencing some spill over. So instead of buying a new watch box. I picked up a drawer insert for silverware and cut some leather strips to hold them in place. Works great!

lots of good content on youtube on the matter. A simple 2-stack of inner boxes, with separators would do it. I've done a few with beechwood boxes and cedar separators - easy to work with , and smells great - no need to line the cedar with flock or fabric either - it;s too soft to mark watch parts. large bags of watch cushions can be got on Amazon for a few $$$ - have fun.

Can't you just buy a watch box like a normal watch enthusiast?
