Watch Safes - BlumSafe - Anyone with hands on experience?

Happy Holidays Crunchers,

Long story, probably long, here...

I am starting a new house project in the New Year and will be building custom built-ins in my home office. Think full wall of shelves and cabinets for extra storage, etc.

As part of the project, I am considering adding a watch safe into the built-in.

In my limited research, I've learned safe can be a significant investment!! I stumbled upon the company BlumSafe and wondering if anyone has experience with their products? Good, bad and/or ugly?

If not, can you recommend a different brand or product?

BlumSafe – Wall safe for watches and other valuables

Thank you all and Happy Holidays.

Note - All Photos snipped from online and of no credit to me! Rolex for attention grabbing!

If thieves really want to get into it, they will. They usually take the whole thing to deal with later and will make an even bigger mess in the process. In my opinion, it's a waste of money. Just have home contents insurance.

I have plans to make the thievery process at least a few hours (also a deterrent) to take the whole thing out, so it would take a true "wet bandit" to finish it off...I don't disagree with you though. The safe itself....💸💸💸

Look at what allegedly happened to Archieluxury. The thieves there must have sat there all day cutting into the safe. They really don't care what they do when they've targeted someone for a huge prize. Security cameras, insurance, maybe a private security team if you have a big collection, but a safe is like putting all your eggs in one basket. Spread things out. Put some in your roof, some under the floorboards, leave decoy fake watches on display.

I agree with all of your comments and appreciate the thoughts / ideas. My situation is on a completely different planet, maybe even solar system, compared to Archie, but again not lost on me. Just considering ways to protect that which I have spent time and $$$ on is all.

The added bonus of some safes is the fire resistant not just for your watches but also paperwork,I have a safe my insurance company insisted when the value of my collection went up ,I'm hoping it will put off the amateur thief,I also have a decoy safe (old gun safe ) which would be easier to take

As already discussed here by @casiodean and @Oldmanwatches , if someone is determined enough, in reality there's no stopping them short off police or yourself intervening.

I mean Keanu Reeves house was just broken into again, and they stole some firearms. Part of me wonders what's going to happen when those idiots try again and Keanu is home.... Besides being a rockstar, actor, gamer, and all around good guy, his firearm training is legit and dude knows how to run and gun.

But I digress 😂.

Proper serial number tracking, insurance, etc is HIGHLY recommended. And if you are going the safe route, make sure it is mounted in such a way that it will take hours/days to extract.

Target hardening is great for opportunistic thieves, but won't work against dedicated ones.

Save some of that money for a fantastic alarm and security system too.

My wife finally agreed to a very ambitious home renovation just before COVID but felt installation of a safe into the reinforced concrete garage floor was goofy, told me that since I do not own any Rolex watches to just increase my insurance coverage. A good friend operates a small watch and jewelry shop nearby so a few of my watches are occupying space in his rock solid safe until I can develop a lasting solution after renovations are finally completed.

If it's too much of a theft target to be safe in your home, what do you do when you wear it? Wear an armored truck as a dinner jacket?

Maybe I'm missing something, but when watches are too valuable to even wear and become a source of stress rather than enjoyment I start to wonder if maybe we've lost the thread... 🤷🏽

Yes. I am also looking / considering this project for those same reasons as well. Fire and insurance paperwork. Thank you for sharing!

I do NEED to get around to exploring insurance options. Any recommendations companies to consider or research?

I am not at a point where I stress about wearing any pieces in my collection day to day. This was more a question to learn how others store and protect their collections. Totally understand your point though!

Also considering the added protection from fire, with this scenario. And it would be enjoyable to build something custom. idk, might now ever happen. Just researching at the moment.

I am in Canada and just contacted my broker to develop a separate policy for some of my watches aside from insurance for other contents. To be perfectly honest, I keep my most sentimental watches in my safety deposit box at my bank. The watches that I keep at home and at my friend’s shop are replaceable. The loss would only be the cost to replace them, I try not to sweat the small issues in life. Keep well, have a great day. Insurance has benefits and limits.

Indeed, different strokes for different folks. As long as you wear and enjoy your collection, that's all that matters!
