Time only watches is more than enough(?)

I heard most people like time only watches because that is all that they need. I understand some people have difficulty reading the tiny date window or if they OCD about asymmetrical dial. But if I got to be honest, most of the time, I looked at my watches to checked the date or day, which is why my favorite complications is a day and date.

That being said. I like time only watches for their aesthetic. These are some of my favorites time only watch in the collection.

This is a NAM Mahameru Automatic. Indonesia based microbrand, Chinese manufacturer (I think), and Japanese movement (miyota 8245). Love the size at 39mm, the panda dial, the single domed sapphire chrystal, and the overall design. A great dress watch for 140USD. It has some QC issues tho, not gonna lie.

And this is a Hamilt... I mean Timex Expedition North Field Mechanical. I think time only movement works best in dress watches and field watches. I like the size (38mm) and what can I say? I like "boring" watches. The movement is a bit underwhelming for the price though, it's a basic seagull manual wind.

So which one you prefer? Time only, date, or day and date watches?

Time only.

Date only useful once per day for anyone with a memory 😄

The day/date is a useful feature, I just don’t like it so much. Symmetry is the biggest issue with me, but I also think dials look nicer without it. One exception is the pointer date which I think is an interesting addition on some watches.

·

For the sake of practicality, I generally prefer to have watches with a date or a day/date complication. Most of my watches have one or the other. I find them useful and when they're well executed they can give a watch a little extra visual appeal. For example, I really like how the day/date windows are integrated with the branding on this Seiko Lord Matic that I have in my collection. If they weren't there I'm not sure if the dial would look quite as interesting to me.

On the other hand, a clean uncomplicated dial does have a certain purity to it that can be charming in its own way. I really like the elegant, luxurious vibe it brings out in my gold King Seiko. On a watch like this, I think even a small date window would undermine its looks.

Same for me. I like my day and date for practical reason.

Nice watches btw, is that a 6106? I have a seiko dx sealion with similar dial layout.

Totally agree. Plus I don't have to worry about setting the day/date on a time only. Pointer date is I think the best way to have dial symmetry and date on a watch.

How about digital "dial"? Hahaha 🤣

Btw, nice NAM watch! Do you think it's an overall good watch?

Gotcha. Btw I consider that watch to be my grail once but I've gone through maybe 10 watches as my grail so🫤. Cant decide.

·

For dress pieces no date and as cleas look as possible, for rest of sports/gada prefer date only. While I use date function frequently I never asked myself which day it is, especially if Friday😀

Thank you. That Lord Matic is actually powered by a 5606. A pretty sweet movement in general though it uses a plastic gear for its quickset day/date mechanism and those have a bad reputation for breaking. Mine works flawlessly and will hopefully continue to do so, God willing.

Seiko seemed to favor that dial layout a lot in their mid range watches during the late 60's. Similar variations appeared in a few different models and sub-brands around that time.

·

I don't ever recall looking at a watch and thinking "man I wish it had a 3 o'clock date." The opposite happens all the time. With that said, I can live with a 6 o'clock date or any other setup that maintains dial symmetry

Btw, nice NAM watch! Do you think it's an overall good watch?

Funny enough I have a vintage digital casio that only display the time and you have to push a button to see that date and month 😁. The NAM is one of my favorite watch in my collection. For the price I have to ignore the QC issues, and at first it was running slow so I have to calibrate it. Beli aja om, skrg cmn 1.8 yg reverse panda😆

Ah I should've known better. Its a lord matic for god sake😆

I like a mix, just like other complications.

I am all inclusive person.. my love for the watches is no different.. love the symmetry and asymmetry, date and day complications and at different positions, moonphases, Chronographs, extra hand on GMT and the digital watches.. life is too short to be stuck on one thing.. my ideology.. enjoy them all while I can..

Ah... I believe the concept is like my smartband then yeah? Because I have to push the groove every time I want to see the time 🙃

Ok then. I guess I'll check the reviews for NAM watches (not just the Mahameru Auto)

Iya tuh, barusan cek website NAM eh ada diskon dadakan buat Mahameru Auto Reverse Panda ama Rose Gold-Blue. Sial bener dah... 🤣

·

I use my watch more for the date than the time. Perhaps a DATE-only watch? 🙂

·

I like pretty watches. Mood decides the choice between the colors and complications on them and I have the bases covered. usually i'm building something so I grab a cheap Timex marathon or cheap Casio im case hammering and vibration kills them. Otherwise its at least with date but Day is best.

·

I prefer a watch with a decently executed date. But I have picked a no-date for my "one-watch-collection". Go figure... I like to practice remember the date, but it sucks when I forget. But the phone is in my pocket 🙄

·

It's just a matter of taste. In terms of complication, you need not look beyond the most basic apple watch- beats all the luxury watches out of the water
