Accessories to the Crime

So...shortly after I got my Seiko Alpinist some five years back, I did something I never bothered to do before: rather than replace the strap like everyone else seemed to do, I went out and replaced the buckle with an aftermarket deployant clasp. (Hmm...spell-check insisted on "deployment", so I can see why that term is so commonly used, however mistakenly.) This, of course opened up a sub-rabbit-hole for me, but one I didn't fall into full-speed until late last year, when I scored my 90s-era Seiko SUS chrono off eBay while vacationing in Mexico. (Dangerous thing, cruising online for watches while on vacay. Anyone else do this? Max, is that why you bring more than one watch with you?) So, when I looked at that watch online, I thought the bracelet might be a bit small for my wrist, so as a fail-safe I also bought a strap just in case. Turns out the bracelet fit fine, but now the strap-bug was biting down hard. Now, I've had my Seiko 5 Sports GMT for a whopping two weeks, and while the bracelet is definitely sticking around (really, Seiko, ahem, "did a solid" this time around, and it's good), I went out and got a nice leather strap a few days later. Then, a few days ago, decided a deployant clasp would be just the thing to reduce wear on the strap and make putting the thing on and removing it easier. But since Amazon charges shipping for anything under 25 bucks, well, I HAD to get something else...hey, that sailcloth strap in blue would look cool...

Love swapping straps to my watch. At one point I would like 3 options per Watch. Cheers

I believe Deployment/Deployant are both technically correct. That being said I'm starting to get into nato and leather straps. Never thought about putting my Seiko SSK on a strap with a deployment clasp, but it looks very premium on yours! Something to think about.

No, it's deployant.

Though through the brute force of overused inaccuracy they are nearly interchangeable now.

Strap options can so completely remake the look and feel of a watch that it’s like having a bigger collection. I love it.

You gotta talk to @HotWatchChick69 , just don't ask him for watch advice, stick to the straps...

Yep, it's kinda tomato/to-mah-toe now.

And, speaking of brute force: The Barton sailcloth strap is taking near-Herculean force to break in. I literally had to wrap both ends around a bar - repeatedly - just to get some degree of bend from them and have it fit my wrist. It's reasonably comfy now, but I think it'll take a little while longer before it's "just right." Totally looks the business, though.

You're right about the looks. I can only see half of the sailcloth in the photo and it's not even on the watch yet and it still looks great!

That looks a solid match for that Orient!
