King Seiko SPB287/SDKS009

What are thoughts on the King Seiko? I tried it on, and I quite like it. And I want a red dial. It's currently available on Gnomon Watches for 30% off the US retail price. But even so it's a bit over $1,000, which still seems pricey for "just a Seiko." Yes, it's nicely built, but for the price? And with a 6R movement? The current price includes a 10% off holiday sale, so I feel a bit of FOMO.

I have a thing for red dials.

Beautiful watch, nice finish, but as you mentioned just a regular Seiko movement. King's clothing without the King's heart.  If it had a better movement it would be worth the price. If you can make the jump, recommend getting a Grand Seiko instead.

·

looks awesome, what movement did it used btw?

It's beautiful and I'm sure that the red dial is stunning in person. But 1KUS$ for a 6R? No thank - Seiko already baited me once with the disappointing 1.2KUS$ SPB147 using the very same trick.

Looks the part! And so festive. What would Santa do?..

I'm not a fan of the chrono24.com text.  What?

But as for the watch, I'm curious what has been done with this brand.  The King Seiko was originally designated as higher than Grand Seiko.  In fact, they were created as separate groups within Seiko to compete with each other.  Have they largely ignored King Seiko now and gone all in with Grand Seiko and the Spring Drive?

Beautiful, but the movemen…..

personally I would look for a vintage King Seiko

·

I love seiko always have an always will but it's not about what we say on here it's about what you like beauty is in the eyes of the beholder but that watch is awesome

Save the money for a Grand Seiko, even if it will take much time to save that money. A difference like day and night compared to Seiko in my opinion.

They are just trying to make quick cash with the King Seiko name, but they just ruin the name King Seiko.

It's where I stole the picture from.

King Seiko was never "higher than Grand Seiko." If anything, they made watches that were more mass market. Both King Seiko and Grand Seiko went dormant in the wake of the quartz crisis. They revived Grand Seiko as a sub-brand ten years later, and then spun it of as a separate brand. Just this year they release a small line of watches with the King Seiko name. These are meant to be a revival of 60s designs.

For the record, I already have several Grand Seikos.

Love the dial but I continue to hear it's overpriced

That's a handsome watch, I've handled a similar one and the construction of the case and bracelet are great, sure the movement is basic but heh. I'd recommend waiting before the hype fades and try to snag a pre-owned one, I've seen brand new on Reddit for around $1200, I'm sure you can get em pre-owned for under 1k if you wait a little longer.

·

Not even at 50% off. 6R35 (a lot of sheet metal and the miserably outdated Spron hairspring) and a bracelet with - aaaarggghh - a butterfly clasp, not even half-links for adjustment... Nope.

Great watch imo.
