Advice

Sorry in advance as this question, I am sure has been asked before.

A friend came to me, asking me that his friend (basically a friend of a friend - why didn't I write that !) hearing that I was into watches wanted a recommendation, his son is turning 18 soon and wanted a watch for £1000 or thereabouts, that would hold its value somewhat, be robust and as the lads18 slightly a little bling, but basically a keeper as well.

My initial thoughts were a Hamilton or Seiko Alpinist, all under 1k but the Hamilton perhaps not blingy enough and the Alpinist (I have one) the question mark over the 6r35 (mine loses 30+ seconds a day.

Looked on YouTube buy hey, thought go to the community who knows. So without knowing the lads character or style, if you were asked the same question by a friend of a friend what would you recommend ?

Thanks in advance .

Tissot PRX for the win!

A Longines Conquest Automatic might do the trick

The first watch in this video is the Seiko Presage sharp edge. More good ones in here:

tissot prx and gentleman is the first things that come to my mind.

I'd go with what cornfedksboy suggested the longines conquest, reliable accurate movement, good water resistance, sapphire glass, looks trick should stand up to life's adventures a proper gada watch

I say, take the lad to a shop and let him choose. That watch's gonna be his and his alone.

Nothing worse than spending 1k on a watch that doesn't get worn - especially one that's supposed to mark such an important event.

Little trick: don't tell him what amount you're willing to pay, he might fall in love with a Citizen :)
