A diver on leather?!?

So, previously there was a post about what we think is not done in this hobby of ours. Today I want to ask you about things many people frown at, but you think are ok. Let me kick this off by saying I have no problem with putting a diver on a leather strap. What do you like (to do) that goes against what's generally accepted? Let me know in the comments...

I like going the opposite: taking dress watches and switching the strap out for metal bracelets to make them appear like a very thin dressy sports watch.

Still, like, zero water resistance though 😁

·

I don't mind a diver on leather. Plenty of people will put leather on a GMT that looks a lot like a diver, but still won't put leather on a diver. If you're actually getting the watch wet, I can see the no leather argument. Beyond that, I don't see the problem.

·

I'll put a diver on leather. Heck, I'll put a field watch on a racing strap. I'm a dirty heathen.

·

Unless you never intend to get your diver wet, leather is great but a diver on bracelet or rubber does allow the wearer to use the watch for its intended purpose. I am referring to just living a normal life: washing your hands, simple cooking or taking a long shower.

·

It’s fine as long as you don’t plan to get it wet. Your watch looks good on that strap.

·

If, like the vast majority of dive watches, its never going in the water, why not?

Liking the approach: wear whatever makes you happy! If you think it looks good then do it 👍🏽

100 percent agree 💯

·

Sure, diving with a leather strap would be plain stupid 🫣

·

Amazing piece of writing, from what I was able to quickly assess. I'll read it again when I have the time to take the time 😊

Yeah, I'm a bit of a rebel myself. I don't like being told what I can and can not do. Opinions and advice always welcome, rules not so much 🤔

Makes sense, and what makes sense I can accept 😃

Thanks for your input and compliment, much appreciated 😊

I mean we all wear leather straps on our divers which rarely get wet but on the rare chance we decide to jump into a pool, not always convenient to find a better place for our wristwatches than on our wrists. Keep well, enjoyed the post. 👍

So all these have gone down at least 60feet . 3 rubber, 1 metal , 1 nato , 1 leather. *Leather if You really give it a daily beach/diving life for a month it is gone. Metal to hot , nato must adjust to often/stinks fast . Only rubber can really be used in the tropics. I tried on for an hour an Omega 007 titanium from a guy I met at a resort. That one is perfect but like 8k .... it would never survive the beating I would give it. Not spending 8 k on a watch for now.

Well, my 1970-ish Camy skin diver probably wasn't all that water resistant when it was new (though it does say "water proof" on the caseback). Today it's not safe for washing dishes, so I think a leather strap is fine, especially if you can find one with a good 70s vibe.

I put my dress watch on Nato strap, my sport watch - on leather and my diver on everything - parachute, nato, zulu, leather strap and metal bracelet … and after 1-2weeks I mixe them again. anarchy I suppose

·

I see absolutely nothing wrong with putting a dive watch on leather! I have 2 Casio duros one I just put in a ss oyster bracelet, the other is going on leather strap!

·

Leather on a diver, nato on a dress watch, all of it.

Dress watches on a nylon/NATO strap. Though this isn't the most extreme example, I have an Orient Bambino that I enjoy wearing with a nylon strap. But if someone out there likes wearing a Cartier Tank, for example, with a nylon strap, well why not?

Changing the strap is the easiest way for us to change the look of our watch and adapt to a different style or occasion. It's also the cheapest way to make it look, and more importantly feel, like we have a new watch 😅

Love how that looks 👌🏽 I would absolutely wear my King Kong, GX-56BB-1DR, on a leather (zulu/nato) strap. I just haven't been able to find good adapters here 😕

Divers on leather? Why yes I do. A great way to class up the joint! 😂

Come to think of it (brought on by your mention of the NTTD Omega), I definitely also love the look of a good mesh on most style watches actually 🤔

Waterproof without specification normally only means splash proof. I wouldn't even take a shower with that. But well done in the looks-department 💯

Yep, if you're not actually going in the water then anything goes 👍🏽

This is what I use & they work perfectly & cheap to boot. My GX-56-BB is on it's Original Strap but I hand painted with all the Yellow accents 😁
