Congrats!  How did you get the Moonswatch???

·

Hey Chris!  Love your stuff. I think I've said my piece on the Moonswatch, but at some point it would be pretty cool to get the whole box and just have it on display in my home speedmaster shrine 😂. I don't much enjoy wearing them (feels cheap) as much I like looking at them.

·

I am a bit torn. The Saturn is my favourite colour of all the options, but I really don’t like the planet on the dial. Mostly due to its resolution. Maybe it looks better in person.

·

No contest.... One is an Icon and one is a toy 😍👍

·

I'll get one eventually, but as recent reviews have shown: a strap change is basically mandatory. My choice would be the mission to the moon, paired with a perforated black racing strap (boring, yes, but I'm not enough a speedy enthusiast to ever save up for the real deal).

i prefer the original with if you have enough budget, but for moonswatch original price i think you cant go wrong

That icon existed for two reasons. To tell the time, and to track a time interval. That toy is better at both those things. I would not sell it short, just because it’s far less expensive. It’s a watch in the end, and we are watch people :)

With all due respect, I actually disagree with you. Yes they both created to tell time and track time interval... But also remember they were created with the best technology or at least in the watch world that is available at that time to withstand the unknown environment and survived. I don't think they are doing any cutting corners because they have to pass some severe tests. However in this new toy case, it's different. They want to have the same exact look to mimic the icon but actually with severe degrade quality. Let's be honest do you think that bio ceramic created because it's latest cool thing? Or is it because it will be cheaper to produced? Also have a look carefully at the quality? My gosh, I thought Seiko has the worst alignment issues, but this swatch thing is worst. Ah people may say it's cheap? But hey let's be honest, at AUS$380 it's not really cheap cheap. Also I hate when people think just because they are not 1k watches they can have excuses for all these quality issues. At this price you can actually get even high quality Chinese homage that produced much much better quality for your money.

On the one hand the moonswatch is fun, like a scale model car where it looks just like the real thing. On the other hand it weird because it is a 1:1 scale model.

·

Are you saying that the two can coexist? And that you can own both without destroying the watch industry 🤯😜

Nice video and enjoy 👍

Of course, the Omega is better. I was half-joking. My comment was to just not discredit the swatch as a toy. It's as much a watch as any other watch.

That omega is absolute garbage when compared to the quality of an A. Lange & Söhne datagraph. But who cares? One cost 20 times more than the other, so the quality should be different.

That does not mean the Omega is bad, just that you get what you pay for. These are all just for fun, as no one needs a watch anymore. If the Swatch makes you happy, then it's performing its intended purpose, regardless of alignment issues, or if it's made of plastic. :)

$180 AUD and I may consider a MoonSwatch, sorry I just can't see the value in a plastic copy of an iconic Omega. I can't afford the real thing but I won't be buying this as a substitute. $380 and I could get a Seiko 5KX or a second hand Hamilton Khaki Field or if you wanted a chronograph you can get a Seagull ST17 and get some change for a counter lunch and a beer or two. Yes there fun watches but I can see the novelty wearing off fast.

Just my opinion of course, each to their own in this hobby of watch collecting.

I think it shows that the Moonwatch looks better on a strap than a bracelet.

·

Nice looking shot, good to see the differences In look. The Moonswatch is all about the look of course, but I think the ‘real deal’ is basking in the attention. Thanks for posting.

·

I was obsessed with Saturn as a kid! May need to grab one when available online down the road.

·

Swatch is like rice.... get your fill and you want something else later. In 5 years only one of those watches will still work.

·

I think the moonswatches are a fun collaboration. I will probably get one when the hype dies down.

·

I keep hearing similar arguments but I think they miss a couple of points. This might get long.

First, minor point, the Bioceramic has been used by Swatch for at least two years, it’s not new or unique to the Moonswatch.

Second, I keep seeing comparison between the Moonswatch and the SMP. What this misses is the other half of the collaboration that makes this interesting. Assuming you think of it as the “quartz crisis” instead of the “quartz revolution”, you have to acknowledge Swatch’s role in sustaining the Swiss watchmaking industry through the change. They created an inexpensive watch and built a brand around the fun designs. They’re great examples of well done pop art, not high art.

Thats what makes these pieces so interesting. It’s not a toy Speedmaster. It’s the Speedmaster design seen through the Swatch pop art lens. Bright colors, (relatively) inexpensive, quartz, fun, etc.

If you don’t hold any regard for Swatch in the first place, this isn’t likely to change your mind. If you recognize that each brand has a distinct point of view and significance, then these watches are  a really interesting blend of the two.

I’m here for it. Not because it’s a budget Speedmaster, but because it’s a fun pop  interpretation of a Speedmaster.

·

How icon the speedmaster design is comes to mind and then what great value for money the moonswatch is! Shame about the moonswatch strap's looks, I'd probably get it replaced with a leather or rubber.

·

The speedy professional is an icon, but the moonswatch is more fun to look at :)
