Patek makes watches and sells watches, stick to that. What their clients chooses to do with their property is none of their business and any attempt to interfere is a gross over reach in my opinion. Today, I still don't understand how brands like Ferrari get to sue their customers for having the "wrong" image. Well, the global climate has changed and their cars are not selling like they were so maybe they should have thought twice before sueing the few that were still buying their cars.
If they did this one with the US Army I would be interested I was psyops and although under USASOC (back then) it's not Rangers nor any hard core special units so these big brands usually don't see the importance of just general Army. 😂. Too bad becasue I would totally rock a SMP US Army watch all day, I guess it's good my wallet is safe.
Yes! Quartz belongs in every collection but for me it's either a G-Shock which is totally GOD tier or there must be a reason why it's quartz like these:
1) Oil filled like the Sinn Hydro watches.
2) Breitling Emergency because there is an electronic beacon.
3) Tissot T-Touch type watches with sensors.
4) Military spec like CWC SBS issue that calls for a quartz.
Everything else, if it has quartz then I am likely to shy away from. Also, a smart watch like the Apple watch is not a watch, it's a device so that's disqualified from this consideration.
Would be a tough call for me, although the Ophion looks like a Urban Jurgensen which totally should seal the deal for me but there is something there that I can't pinpoint and I wish I could about my insecurities. The Navitimer is a classic, it's got heritage and it's a descendent of the original, however far it may stray.
Of course not every watch is like that and all brands must start somewhere but it feels to me that the Navitimer is shoulder to shoulder with the other icons such as the Speedmaster Pro, IWC Big Pilot, Blancpain 50 Fathoms, Submariner e.t.c.
Then again, I also feel the Navitimer is available if you change your mind but that Ophion may be a lot harder to get once they stop making them?
I know it's hard but if you can, save your money now and work to get your grail. There is nothing that will satisfy you other than having what you want and unless you truly like the "alternative" and see it as something that would remain in the collection and don't need to sell it for the grail.
Otherwise you would have just wasted money because you just wanted to buy something. If anything I would go preowned, they seem to take about a 30% hit at around $10,000 ish? so you;re already half way to one at $5k.
There is no substitute!
I don't know, never say never. I think if there is any brand that puts enough effort, attention and thought into a watch I would be open to considering.
