On a mission to fill up my watch box! Cars and photography also keep my mind preoccupied when I'm not looking at watches.
My current collection isn't impressive, but it's helped me figure out what my true interests are over the years. Here to learn to see other people's watch collections.
I've always had an appreciation for watches but didn't get into horology until a few years ago. One day I wanted to buy a "nice" watch...and that quickly turned into tons of internet research on styles, movements, proper sizing. After that, watch content pretty much consumed a lot of my spare time.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
That's hard to say because I know I've had a few as a kid, but one that I can certainly remember being excited about was my old Nike Y2k sports watch. I felt so cool rocking that futuristic looking timepiece.
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
Not super interesting but I do have a vintage Bulova Accutron that I won during an online auction. From what I could see from the pictures it had something engraved on the case back. Once it arrived in the mail (not fully working of course) I got to take a closer look at what the engraving said.
It was a gift to the gentleman who owned the watch from the 70s until recent. His job gifted him this Accutron for over twenty years of service. I ended up doing some internet digging and found his obituary and found out that his daughter worked for that same company. Really interesting to learn a little about the watch's' first owner.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
Slow down. You will likely never stop wanting watches so it's best to take it easy and pace yourself. If not, you'll likely end up selling them off later on or have quite a few pieces you no longer take interest in.
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
Tudor has been on my mind for quite some time...working on getting a BB36, BB54, or a Ranger if they decide to size it down to 36mm. Most recently, it would be Ball. Something about those colorful tritium tubes that really speak to me. they also seem like a great value for the money.
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
Any variations of the gold Omega Speedmaster. I have a thing for gold watches, and while I love a classic gold Rolex, they just seem too common and extra blingy. The gold speedy with the green dial is simply one of the most beautiful watches I've ever seen....and it's different from what the masses would typically go for.
