IMHO very important ..i wont buy certain brands just because of the watch name and no other reason ย ..Oris , Formex, Dufrane, Zenith, Nixon ,Junkers,Junghans ..come to mind ..๐. Any replies would be welcomed..oh yes throw in Ugly watch co...what a branding blunder why would i want to wear something that names itself ugly...ridiculous
i just thought of another name i dislike Yema ..that means egg yolk in spanish YECH ...would
ย anyone want a watch named Yolk or egg ..hey im wearing ย my egg today ย ..cmon not me ย

Not very important to me. Verified reviews, wrist photos, technical specifications, and fit & finish are much more important aspects of a watch for me.
Do you mean you donโt like the name itself phonetically or for its meaning? ย For example Oris, an Egyptian god, or Nixon, because ofโฆwell you know ๐. Or do you mean you donโt like watches from those brands due to other reasons, so seeing the name instantly turns you off?
Iโll be honest, I hate the name โPagani Designโ, but I love their quality (never owned one) and I have other AliExpress brand watches that love.ย
I went to school with a guy named Christopher Ward. The dude was a straight up D-bag. There's no way I would ever wear a watch with his name on it, no matter how much it appealed to me. Now that CW has adopted the new logo? Maybe, but it would still make me think of that prick, so....probably not. ๐
Unfotunate to miss out on good watches because you have a rule about names. ย There are brands I don't really like, but I give them a fair shot when they put out a watch. ย I'm always open to a brand doing something I'll like despite not having done so in the past. ย

Now this I could totally understand. ย I am with you 100% on this. FunnyโฆI had a Christopher (last name redacted) in highschool as well that was..not the friendliest sometimes, for lack of a nastier term.

In reply to your question here are my various reasons Oris sounds too close to orifice, Formex sounds like an industrial cleaner or similar, Dufrane sounds like doofus , Zenith sounds like an old now defunct tv manufacturer, Nixon well iย
wasnt a fan of his fan to say the least, Junkers well look at the name i dont wear JUNK, and Junghans is too similar to Junkers, Ugly watch co is just an incredbily inept branding of a company name ..who wouldย
want to wear Ugly...hope you have a good laugh though im serious you wont catch me wearing any of those watch brands though im sure they make nice watches..As you know watches are an emotional buy and i think they reflect who you are so name is important ...๐

And here's the thing: ย there are tons and tons of people out there who love their music! ย And they probably rapturously follow every tweet or Instagram post by the band members. ย And they probably sit around and try to parse the deep meaning behind every Blink-182 lyric, when they're high on mushrooms. ย But... ย the reality is that there is no meaning, because the band members are just a bunch of meathead idiots.

Yes i can respect your reply totally but as i wrote buying a watch is totally a luxury and an emotional decision . That decision involves not just its looks but how you feel about ย looking at it from all sorts of sides including name, story, where it was manufactured and many other aspects . One reason that much thought often goes into the watch brand name it is an important decision for any watch maker.ย

Okayโฆorifice absolutely made my day, maybe my week. I will never not associate the two now ๐๐๐ Touchรฉ to the highest degree. May I take a guess and say are you involved in literary academics? ย Those associations are on-point and I totally see where you are coming from. Great comment!

That is hilarious! I'm not really a Blink 182 fan, myself. Good thing Tom isn't pumping out watches!ย

As a skater, your analysis is on-point ๐๐. Former skater I should say, I was a little bit too young for the blink-182 era, but if you watch the show Workaholics, you may get a kick out of this character:ย

Actually to add to that i really like Dufrane watch designs and the fact they are assembled ย in Usa but i just cant pull the trigger on a DOOFRANE watch..if somebody asks me hey what watch is that and i say its a DOOfrane watch .i just cant . ..sad but true .

Love your reply you made my day buddy ..Thank you so much ..i know many will think im stupid crazy insane , neurotic but watch buying is insane anyway ..why do people spend THOUSANDS on ย items that is basically a real extravagence ..so the buyer has to really love every aspect of that purchase..or so i think..

Agreed 100% :)
Im kind of on the borderline about out of order watches name ย ...not crazy when i first heard it but it did remind me of the final court scene of the Al Pacino fabulous film And Justice for all ..and Al yelling your out of order your out of order ..so maybe its not that bad ..๐
If you made the coolest watch in the world and named it Buttface McFartsalot, well then I would be the proud wearer of a Buttface McFartsalot. Frankly, I think that attaching importance to a brand is a great way to avoid critical thinking and get taken advantage of.
I see your point but respectfully disagree ..would you buy a car that was named buttface or ugly ..even if it was a good car ..i wouldnt maybe you would ...especially when there are so many other "cars" with "decent" names why would i choose one with a "bad" name ย .
I used to feel this way about Christopher Ward's wordmark logo.ย
But like stated in The Matrix, words or brand names are just words; an arbitrary, made up collection of symbols that lack meaning until we assign meaning.ย
You are free to do as you will, but this is just another version of snobbery.ย
Yes you can call it a form of snobbery but i call it a little pride ..i like when people look at me and and smile because they like what im wearing ..is that really so bad...isnt that the reason we dress up nice or wear jewelry or heavens forbid buy a really nice looking watch . Isnt looking at a piece of art that attracts you a good thing ..i consider a watcn a form of art ..especially if its well made and designed .ย
Whatch names are indeed important to a degree and obviously they are not going always work everywhere round the globe. But unless it's something really bad if I like something then it gets on the wrist tbh
Ill be honest brand is 70-80% of what gets a watch onto my shortlist.
Im at the stage where raw specs : ย price ratio matters much much less to me in deciding what Iโm gonna put money into to represent my personality through what I wear.ย
JCB said โyou donโt buy a watch to tell the time, you buy a watch to tell a storyโ. That hits home for me.ย
So - like a lot of what @Pete_NSOW ย talks about on his channel - if I find that a brand doesnโt connect with my story or if I canโt connect with its โฆ then it doesnโt get a look in.
Subjective examples for me would be Yema (too French), Citizen (too chaotic), Longines (too feminine), Nomos (too pretty), Christopher Ward (too diluted) and Rolex (tooโฆ well Rolex)
Breitling, Zenith, Oris, IWC, Seiko, Grand Seiko, Farer, Zelos, Lange, Vacheronโฆ for whatever reason, theyโre the brands Iโm drawn to. And then that sets the scope for the pieces Iโll dive into.ย
Great honest replyย
I guess there are some brand names I couldn't look at on a watch. Delma, for example. In my country, it's a brand of margarine. They had these idiotic ads with a housewife talking with a cartoon margarine blob-man that had a voice as if after inhaling helium.ย
So, even if Delma made a most appealing watch, I just wouldn't be able to look at it, because every single time I'd think of that goddamn blob of margarine and its infuriating voice.
There are also model names I can't stomach. Yema Wristmaster. Wristmaster sounds like a title for a holder of the Guinness record for longest time of masturbation. The chicken-chokin' champion, the Wristmaster!

Letโs not conflate snobbery and taste tho dude.
I might not like wearing Metallica t-shirts. Nor Ralph Lauren polos. Because lots of components of both brands (and many more) dont appeal to me. So I wear Asket T-shirts instead.ย
Now does that mean Iโm snobby towards the other brands or guys wearing them? No. It just means that (in the words of the always awesome Evan, from YoureTerrific on YT) FOR ME theyโre not the brands that get onto my list.ย
Im super glad the other brands exist and are out there and have people who like them.ย
For there to be snobbery there needs to be an element of actual condescensionโฆ
for me at least ๐

I kinda see what youโre driving at, but I honestly donโt read it that way.
Again, there needs to be room for personal preferences / distaste (ie making a wierd connection that Oris = Orifice and knowing that itโs largely idiosyncratic / fussy) without that automatically dropping into snobbery, right?
Otherwise weโll all have to be universally positive / affirming about everything, everywhere, every time.ย

Do you mean to tell me you wouldn't jump at the chance to drive the Isuzu Mysterious Utility Wizard
I wanted to blow off brand name and say โnot veryโ but if Iโm being honest, I think it does matter. Mainly itโs a matter of trust in the brand rather than flexing. I donโt really care what others think of my watch. In my experience 99% of people donโt even notice your watch, but I do care that Iโm going to get a quality product, good bang for my buck, and responsive customer service. brand reputation weighs heavily into all of that.
Do you mean to tell me you wouldn't jump at the chance to drive the Isuzu Mysterious Utility Wizard
Hmm it is awfully temptingย

Watch companies are THE WORST at picking names.
It is no coincidence that Breguet,Rolex, Omega, Cartier, Audemars Piquet, Jaeger Le Coultreโฆ.. are world famous.
Despite making watches I like, I would never buy because of the silly name, how it reads/looks brands such as Doxa, Brew, Autodromo, Halios, AnOrdain, Magrette, Unimatic, Masenna Lab, Monta, Zelosโฆ.
I am a bit leery of brand names that are missing vowels that are still pronounced, particularly MVMT. I immediately think they are a cheap fashion brand. I make an exception for BOLDR, as they seem to make good watches.
Not important. I do pay attention to ground floor specs from time to time.
