Seiko Prospex Logo

For me, Prospex logo in Seiko newer model, makes me prefer the older version (without the x tattoo). Somehow look less-cluttered and less-generic. Seiko seems like trying to put Prospex logo in every watches, which sometimes works and some doesn't. Share your thoughts!

If the Islander logo doesn't bother me, there probably isn't a logo out there that will. 🤣

We are not alone 🥂

If I was Seiko, I would re-launch Presage and Prospex lines into separate brands/companies and take "Seiko" off the dial. It would allow them to break away from the old Seiko identity and put away the past issue with QC and perceived brand "cheapness".

Grand Seiko would always be the flagship

If they were treated like separate brands, Seiko group would dominate sales spaces with a larger presence and seek more individuated identities that create diverse selling points.

The problem with Prospex goes far beyond the logo. It actually created a situation where watches are double branded, which leaves the customer to decide which brand is the more important. Is Seiko is such a weak brand name that it really need the support of a wingman logo? I don't think so, Seiko should be proud enough of their name to state that we are Seiko and this is all that really matter.

Then there is the tiering system. What does Prospex really mean? This is a pertinent question because when I look at the list of features it's hard to escape the conclusion that Prospex=Downgrade. No signed crown? It must be a Prospex. Hardlex? It must be a Prospex. Misaligned bezel? Of course, what would you expect from a low level Prospex! One thing for sure is that it doesn't really reflect a system by which watches are grouped according to "Professional Specification", because I have yet to meet a pro who insist that what his next watch really need is a mineral glass crystal and an unregulated 21600 BPH movement.

It also doesn't really add to clarity of understanding. Why is an Alpinist an Alpinist even when it's not mentioned anywhere on the dial? Why mention on the company web site that the SPB14X is a 62MAS re-creation but then omit using this on the watch itself? Is it because the urge to slap this idiotic logo robbed the dial from any space to add useful information?

To me the Prospex branding is a bad strategy, but perhaps Seiko thinks differently and have the numbers to back their decision.

I have a simple rule, "Don't like it, Don't Buy It!"... us nerds here love to criticize so much about branding, QC, marketing...etc..etc... like the famous @HotWatchChick69 always says, "Opinions are like A$$Holes!, Everyone has one".... BTW love that Quote such a wise Chick that one...

It doesn’t bother me at all.

What does the old Prospex logo look like?

I disagree that Presage and Prospex would succeed as independent brands. Seiko is one of the best known brands in the World, with a big fan base. It would take a lot of effort to bring any spin-off brands up the that level of recognition. Just look at Alba.

I don't think Seiko makes a "bad" watch these days.  I'll buy anything they make if I like the way it looks - they're meant for wearing, not for queening in a collector's case.
