Black Bay 41 versus Monta Noble

I would like the opinion of some watch enthusiasts. I have been looking at the Monta Noble, and I really think that it could be the great everyday watch that I have been looking for about 6 months. I really like the Rolex OP and Omega Aqua Terra, but I can't justify spending that much money.

My son works at a watch store, so I asked him about the Monta. He quickly replied that for about same money, he could get me a BB 41. Great, I guess. I had kinda already landed on the Monta, but wanted to know what you bunch of watch geeks are thinking. Thanks, Jim

Have you had a chance to try them on the wrist, side-by-side?  I think that's the only way to know.  Specs and photos are great and all...  but, my experience has been that there have been watches I'd fallen head over heels for based on pics and specs, and then quickly came to regret, and others that I saw and read about in articles and dismissed entirely, only to find that I loved them!

Aesthetically, the Noble is more in line with the OP and AT, so if you like that look, it is hard to ignore the Noble. Monta's can be hard to track down to try in person though.

Do remember, that for this specific Tudor, it is an ETA or Sellita movement and not an in-house movement. That is not a bad thing, but that is why it is one of the cheaper Tudor pieces. It is also a much bigger and chunkier watch than the Noble, so to @HotWatchChick69 comment, the best case scenario is to try both. If you have a smaller wrist, you may find the Noble much more comfortable to wear.

unfortunately, the Monta is only available online, but to your point, I should put my hands on the BB 41. Thanks

Good point about the "in-house" movement. I would end up with the same power reserve with either watch. The OP has always been that watch that I think is the perfect everyday watch, and the Noble really reminds me of the OP.  Thanks

You understand my quandary. Great deal on the BB, but like you said the Monta is a bit sexier and probably has a higher level of finishing. Thanks

The bb41 is going to wear very measurably larger than the noble so definitely get in the store to try that out.  You might even find that moving down to the bb36 could be a better comparison to the noble.

For my money, the noble is absolutely killer, I think they nailed the size, the dial and the hand set. If you've worn an op39 before, it's very very close to that feeling (though a somewhat more modern look and dial layout obviously)

I was in a similar situation. I had tried on the Tudor BB58 several times at a local AD, but something was off. I liked the watch, but didn’t love it.  I was also interested in the Monta Oceanking, so I went to their office in St. Louis to try it on. It was the watch I’d been looking for. The fit, finish, and customer service was phenomenal. I live about 15 minutes away from their St. Louis location, so that made trying it on a non-issue. If you are ever in St. Louis, set up a time to go to their office. It’s worth a visit. Or if you are going to the watch fair in Chicago, I could let you try my Oceanking.

Monta will be presenting at Windup so they might have a Noble there you could try. I vote Monta all day long. The only Tudor I’d get is the Black Flag or maybe a 1926. Just can’t get past the snowflake hour hand. Just not for me.

The Monta is superior outside of brand heritage. If you ever get a chance to hold them side by side, you’ll see that the finishing and attention to detail on the Monta is shockingly top notch. Having owned Montas and Tudors, I say the underdog wins in a KO.

Monta has (had?) a Try-At-Home program where you given them a deposit of $300 and they send you a non-working exhibition model. I did this a few months ago for the OK. It's a great way to feel the watch on wrist, check out the finishing, etc. Look into this option if you can.

the question to ask yourself is what are you looking for in a watch? I've handled Tudors and Montas (not these specific models) and the Monta is unquestionably the better made watch when it comes to attention to detail, finish, and bracelet. If that's what you want, go for it. Monta, however, lacks the brand pedigree of Tudor, so if having a watch with a recognizable name and something that 30 years that is well known, get the Tudor. Just think of how many obscure watch brands from the 1970s pop up for sale. Who knows, maybe Monta will survive and expand in the decades to come, but that's not something you can know in the moment. I personally enjoy supporting independent brands and for me, it's a no-brainer and I'd recommend the Monta.

This is great to know I was contemplating on getting the BB but never heard of Monta, thanks for the info guys.

Get the MONTA ❤

I love the Black Bay but for about a grand less you get the same finishing and better with the Monta. With all the hands and markers being diamond cut and polished under the polished steel bezel, this thing shines! that being said I would say it is a bit more dressy while the Tudor dial makes it more sporty.
The biggest selling point to me besides the finishing is the bracelet. not only does each individual link articulate, but the quick adjust clasp with 4 micro adjustments make for a perfect fit. not to mention two half links included. The Monta just hits it out of the park in all aspects of a go anywhere do anything watch.
As far as history/heritage. Gotta build it somehow. Any Monta owner is a part of history. If you can make it into the office, Justin (President of Monta) will hand you the watch and size it himself. Not sure how many people can say they got their watch straight from the owner. He runs their Instagram and will respond to your questions directly within a day or two. Can't beat that customer service.
I love the Tudor. I still watch reviews on it all the time because it is such a great piece. I can tell we have similar taste based on what you are looking at and other more expensive watches we have in common as well.

I got a chance to handle the Aqua Terra in person, and it honestly made me fall in love with my Noble even more. Outside of the in house movement, the Monta stands up to the Omega in every way. I couldn't believe it. I tried on a watch 3x the price and would still walk away with the Monta if I had been given the choice right then and there.

I always want to get bb36 but end up placed my order with Monta (Tiffany blue) 😬. Love their case design and quick adjust feature. Will share how I feel once I get the watch in sept22 😅

Really appreciate your insight, the Noble is "eye candy" for sure.
