This watch has way over delivered, 3+ years experience

This is not a rolex but I love it so much more. This is from a microbrand steinhart and it’s a beast!

This was my first ever mechanical watch. For me, exhibition case back is a must and so, frustrated by rolex not having an exhibition caseback, their high prices, and my liking for their vintage model which only comes with acrylic glass over their current pepsi, I took a leap of faith with this one.

Sapphire crystal, automatic hacking eta 2893-2 movement, ceramic bezel, Mercedes hands, old lume, exhibition caseback, gmt and 300m water resistance, it had everything I ever wanted in my first ever proper watch.

I think I bought it for some 700-800 euros to celebrate my graduation. I knew it would not be probably as good as a rolex but I still went all in on it.

However, to my surprise, this watch was a tank. From bumping hard into doors to swimming in lake Eibsee in Germany. From sailing in Charles river in boston to snorkeling in south china sea in Singapore. From frozen peaks of Swizz Alps to scorching Thar desert of India, this thing has never failed me.

I was always ready for it to just give up but it just keeps going.

This is what got me into microbrands. Into mechanical watches. Into this whole community. I just wanted to thank this watch and share this story and apologies to steinhart. Sorry steinhart for always expecting for your watch to fail. You really made a killer watch.

I owned one Steinhart: Steinhart Ocean One with Green Aluminum insert. I purchased that in 2015. It was a solid watch. Like you stated, it felt like a tank. I replaced the green insert with their OEM black ceramic insert. Made it appear more luxurious. I had to sell it, though, because the 42mm case on a 22mm wide bracelet was too heavy. Since then, I have stayed away from watches over 40mm.

You have a beautiful watch. Despite what the homage haters and watch snobs say, wear it with pride. It seems like most watch enthusiasts that aren't snobs respect Steinhart.

Hey, I am glad I am not the only one that feels this way. It took me a lot of courage to finally accept how much I love this watch. I only buy watches to celebrate some occasion so I never thought if selling. If they stop, I will still keep them because they remind me of the moment I bought them for. Also, I only own 3 watches so i really hope they keep working else I will dearly miss them 😂

I don't have an issue with Steinhart just like I don't have an issue with Invicta.

Too many people just regurgitate what they've heard and not what they've actually experienced.

Good on ya!

Almost every watch is repairable. The movement therein this Steinhart can be serviced by any competent watchmaker. The only watches watchmakers have difficulty in repairing is old vintage watches, because parts are hard to source, or there isn’t any OEM vintage parts left. This is the case unfortunately with some old Rolex and Tudor models.

Thanks. I really took a leap of faith. It was love at first sight I was honestly ready for it to stop working soon. But damn, the honeymoon never ended and it is still going strong. I am honestly surprised by the value I got out of my purchase.

Hard to go wrong with a Steinie!

Can you remember the year purchased? I’m still a bit conflicted with the whole “homage” concept but when you can get great specs on a watch with decent build quality for 20th of the price of “the real thing” it’s not surprising they are popular. Sugess/Seastern fall into a similar category I’ve just ordered one of their refurbished models as an experimen to see how they feel in the hand,it’s not an homage just a funky/ sporty bicompax dial.

Stunning watch and love the rotor! I’ve had my eye on a certain Steinhart and someday it will be mine!

Yes. I think I bought it on June 20th, 2020 to celebrate me completing my masters degree.

To me homage pieces are totally fine in many cases:

  1. When the homage is better value - like in this case. Even if I have the money for rolex, i never bought one. I just dont think its a good enough value. And this is specifically a homage of a vintage rolex which you cannot buy first hand. And the vintage ones has flimsy bracelet, acrylic glass dome and poor water resistance. Not to mention no exhibition case back. All in all, I really wanted this one over a vintage rolex and to me that felt just fine.

  2. Another case is when the original watch maybe impossible - There are many watches most of us would never be able to buy. Should their exist a nice homage that gives you a taste of it while also delivering a good value watch, I have no problem with people buying them. You shouldn’t have to die without experiencing a watch you really love just because of money.

As long as it’s not a total rip off and trying to pretend it’s something else, i think it’s just fine.

I have an Ocean 39 Ceramic and it has been everywhere with me. I’ve worn it skating on multiple occasions and it’s hit the concrete and just kept going. It still looks good and keeps excellent time.

So glad to hear others have same experience as mine. Gives me more confidence to recommend to my friends now when they ask me if it’s good. 😃

My buddy has a sub that he got before the market went wild and he even said the Steinhart was a solid watch, especially for the price.
