Couple of King Seikos - what do you think?

Tried these two recently and was pretty impressed by the black dial one. On the other hand, I still think they are overpriced compared to my Longines Spirit 37 (which can be obtained for less than 2k bucks).

Curious to hear your thoughts!

movement is meh for the price, everything else is 👌

·

Definitely the black one. And agree full RRP is too much. Even Grand Seikos are relatively easily discounted so I would expect the same here.

1500-1800 will be a great price I think

·

What's the price on these? And what's the difference between Gran Seiko and King Seiko (besides the price point, I assume)

Retail is 2800 usd if I am not mistaken

·

Thanks, kind of expensive....

·

definitely love the texture on the white one

Yeah, that looks like the limited edition one. SJE095.

I got mine a few months back, absolutely smitten, most comfortable bracelet I own, better finishing than comparable Longines/Oris I was also considering, read online Seiko had upped it's game with regulation on 6Rs, especially with the KS, and can confirm it's true, keeps excellent time, as good if not better than my Khaki field auto with the 2824. Can't recommend it highly enough. Also got it new for $1,600.00, below MSRP

Oh no… i didn’t. Need to be reminded that that white one with the patter exists.

·

The pattern on the white dial 😍this model should be called the snow flake instead lol

I guess it's slightly different model - yours is 37mm and the ones I tried are 38.6mm. They have different movements - 6L35 on those I tried.

Yep, it is!

For some reason it looks cheap to me. I guess it's not a real texture, just a 2d print - the same as they do in seiko presage and sharp edge series.

·

Imo too expensive for the movement and bracelet it has.

The bracelet is well-finished by the way. Don't you like it visually?

Yes, not judging the finish but the way how it meets and blends with the case could be better. There is also quite a visible gap between lugs and bracelet, many much cheaper watches have these tolerances sorted out.

I have the grey dial (37mm, 6R). Love the aesthetic. Superbly quirky, plus glistens from every angle. I'm now looking to add either the black or ltd wisteria. I would have preferred a 6L movement, but they all have a date window. I just prefer the clean lines of the no date dial (the dream would have been a 37mm, silver sunray dial, 6L, no date). Agree regarding "value", if you are looking for value then you'd look elsewhere.

SJE095 has been tugging at my wallet

·

its not bad in general but since King Seiko was known for its hi-beat movements it really is not what people expected.

also that movement can be found in seikos costing less than half of the King Seiko which leaves a sour taste

Those 6L's are not yet well known and not in too many models, but they should be at least a level above 6R. Not to mention they are thinner. I think you won't regret it, if you like the watch design wise. I had these KS's on my wrist (the 6R ones), but they left no impression on me that day. The new marine master on the other hand... 😍

I tried them on too, my fav was the black one.

Marine master? SJE101? I tried that one, it felt very very nice.

I had it with direct comparison to the Longines legend diver 39mm. And I think the Marine master felt more expensive than the legend diver. Especially the bracelet. But the legend diver is almost a dress watch and is supposed to be more elegant, therefore more lightweight, slender and less toolish, while the marine master feels like Rolex submariner competitor.

·

I too was skeptical on the price point. But seeing these in the flesh really changed it all for me and when I put it on the connection was immediate. Would I like a "better" movement?Sure, hi beats are cool but the 6R in mine is a workhorse with a good PR and is running -/+ 2 secs a day by my last measurement. Also got it for about 500$ USD off retail so I'm happy

Nice watch at 50% discount. Ridiculous at full retail.

I don't remember the ref but this one) It looks like a Sub for me too - brutal and rugged. The only thing that I don't like is the bracelet - looks too dressy for a tool watch IMO.

The entire watch is a little too blingy to be a true tool watch. It is clearly not one and the elevated price seems to confirm it. I'm glad that Seiko produced it, it's IMO quite a bold move. In the sense that the design definitely abandoned the simple tool-watch aesthetic and the MarineMaster tool watch history and instead took the route of luxurious surface finish with many polished surfaces, alternating brush/polish, the 6L is also not a tool watch movement, it's a step above.

Although the MarineMaster purists all over the internet seem to be crying how it is not a true MarineMaster anymore, I think that Seiko played well into todays trend of desk divers. (How many people use their Rolex Submariners [or Longines Legend Divers] to actually time scuba diving?)

All that matters is that we like it)
