Scratch my itch

I wanted to get an Explorer II mod for a few months already but then Seiko decided to release their new GMT the SBSC009 which has put me in a real dilemma.

Which would you go for in terms of looks vs value?

The Seiko Mod is 40mm @ $380

The Seiko GMT is 39.4mm @$480

While I do not care for the date on the GMT, it will not scream replica. I like a mod as much as the next person, but that is a little too close for me. Ultimately, get what you like though.

Personally I’m curious to try the new bracelet on the new Seiko GMT. And I think I like the look of it a little more. And help set the dial is very 3-D.

As a proud owner of an Explorer clomage, I'm kind of saturated. And a Rolex design with a Seiko badge feels even more wrong. Were it a Namoki logo, I wouldn't say a thing.

On the other hand, I really like the original Seiko. It's clever story-wise (The Seiko SRPG being a field watch design and Explorer 2 being a caver's watch, so they're kinda close) and especially design-wise.

And only just now (after the first GMT and Alpinist GMT) they've come up with a new design for the GMT hand.

I DIY mod is always really cool even if a homage.

I like the GMT hand, indices and price on the mod MUCH better!

This was one of my considerations too!

$380 for a Sekiomod!!! 😖🤯 insane!!! You crazy!! Let’s get you parts and build it to your spec!! Yeah let’s just change the hands set perhaps but up to you!

The undercut crown on the new GMT is just asking to be caught on something. I have ripped the stem out of a watch by catching the crown on the edge of a plastic bin and now know that crown guards are there for more than just a tough image.
