My New Longines Master Collection

Ladies and gents, I present to you the top of the Longines tree, the Master Collection Moonphase with Retrograde.

Picked up from my local AD yesterday, I can barely take my eyes off it. On that spectacular barleycorn dial, we have six blued steel hands, the first showing a day indicator with a retrograde hand, below which is a day/night indicator where the sun and moon drift gracefully across the apature. Below that is that famous and historic Longines text and winged hourglass logo. Off to the right is another retrograde hand pointing to the date. On the left hand side, a second time zone is displayed in 24hr format with the third retrograde hand. Lower half of the dial shows the moonphase above a retrograde seconds hand. This is the fun one to watch flick instantly from 60 to 0.

Quite a lot going on, but I feel it's all very well laid out and still quite easy to read the time, even with a quick glimpse.

On the side of the case we have the crown (bearing the Longines text and logo) and four "correctors" for adjusting three of the retrograde functions and the moonphase (not the the seconds).

There's an exhibition caseback showing off the L707.2 caliber, featuring a self winding rotor finished with Côtes de Genève whilst the main plates are finished with perlage.

The whole case is polished to perfection, ensuring it really catches the light and the eye. The steel bracelet is 20mm at the lugs and maybe has a slight taper, though i'd need to check that, and is 2 thirds polished with brushed centres. The butterfly clasp has the Longines text and logo.

Overall i'm extremely happy with it, and pleased to have something a bit different from the Longines catalogue. The associate in my local AD said it was the first time he'd seen one of these for a long time. This will now sit as the pinnacle of my assortment of watches until such a time that said AD let's me buy a Rolex Air King. I live in hope.

Do I percieve your tone correctly, you're not a fan?

I imagine this is a watch that won't appeal to the masses, like the salesman said, he'd not seen one for a very long time.

Stunning! I'd be staring at that retrograde seconds hand all day.

This is a great piece! Enjoy! Interestingly, my Dad had one of these without the weekday/day-night indicator....it mysteriously disappeared on the way back from Longines and its first service. In the time that he had owned the watch, Longines had discontinued his model. As a result, they wound up replacing it with this one.

·

Congratulations! I like the Air King, but I think you’re new Longines is a more interesting watch.

·

Looks great - such a classy looking watch 👌. I’d LOVE to get a retro second one of these days, one of the coolest complications

It’s Longines - but very striking and different 👏

Thanks! Ooh, very interesting. Hopefully your Dad wasn't too displeased, or perhpas he was pleased with that.

Thanks. Oh yeah, it's certainly more interesting, and I love it to bits, but it doesn't stop me wanting the Air King 😂
