Did I just get "The Call"?? Oh my word, I just got the call!

But first, let's rewind.

For those that don't want the back story: my AD emailed me to say I can buy an Air King. That's it.

Those who do want it, read on and i'll explain how I got here.

The first "Luxury" watch I bought was my Longines Spirit Zulu Time. The AD I got that from is an independent jeweller that holds a small number of watch brands: Longines, Tudor, Rolex, Tissot and Breitling. When I collected my Zulu, I asked to register my interest for the Air King. This was in March.

Fast forward 3 months, now mid-June and I go back to that same AD to collect my second Longines, the Master Collection.

I was in a bit of a rush that day and the Rolex salesperson who'd taken my details was busy with another customer, so I didn't see or speak to him, though I did follow up with an email saying i'd been in but missed him. He replied to say I was free to pop in any time.

My next visit was another 2 months later, in mid August. The guy i'd been dealing with was on holiday, but I sat down with another of their Rolex sales staff and tried on the Air King again along with the GMT Sprite to compare greens (they're ever so slightly different i'd say).

When I mentioned my interest in the Air King, the sales guy merely noted that his colleague had got my details. He didn't say anything else on the subject.

Fast forward again to this week. It's been another three months since I last visited or emailed the AD. I figure it wont hurt to drop a note to say that i'm still keen to get the Air King, so I draft an email saying almost exactly that.

I'm expecting a generic "Yeah, everyone wants one, we'll keep you in mind" kind of reply, but, to my amazement, he came back to me the same day to say:

The Air King is a distinct possibility for you before Christmas. Are you in a position to buy one in the next few weeks?

I swear I nearly shat myself.

Two months ago, I posted this thread wondering if buying the Air King would actually be a good idea. I explained that there are several watches on my list that could be purchased for the same outlay as the Air King. I thought out loud that the Air King might feel to me like it's stolen the funds needed to buy those other pieces and that it might not be worthy.

The excitement I felt when I got that email from the AD told me that wasn't the case.

Side note: since I posted that thread two months ago, I have in fact gone on to buy two of the watches I listed. There'll be NWA posts for those in due course.

So of course I replied to that email immediately and said that the money was burning a hole in my pocket, and that barring a few dates in Dec, if he said the word, i'd be there.

He came back to me a day later to confirm he had an Air King he'd be delighted to offer me. We're now just working out when is going to be best for me to collect (it might be in the first week of next year), but that's it. The watch is mine!
