Delayed Gratification Sucks.

Hi all, the age old question here: i am currently saving for an IWC (about halfway there), and my current savings amount puts me in the market for a few other selections on my wish list. Continue towards the goal or get something now and keep the IWC on the future wish list? P.S. my last purchase was in March, if that helps.

Hang in there, it'll be worth it 💪🏼

Keep going, you'll regret it if you don't

Don't settle

Just before the global pandemic, examined a lovely platinum Journe Moonphase, didn’t have the discipline to just save, have already exceeded the price of that Moonphase which might have satisfied my desire for more and more. No real regrets but one platinum would have been perfect.

·

Are you saving for a new or used one? IWCs take a pretty good hit on the secondary market so that may help you get there much sooner, but as others said, hold the line.

One on Chrono24, I have had some killer deals there, great thinking!

But I don't LIKE the answer...🤣

The hitchhiking analogy often applies to this hobby: wait for the ride that takes you to your final destination, say no to all others 🤙❤️

Mahalo, my friend. Appreciate the wisdom.

·

No way I could wait if there was something else I also wanted that I could get now. Eat, drink and buy watches for tomorrow we die.

·

Wait and get what you really want. You won’t regret it. IWC doesn’t get a lot of love, but it has become my favorite brand lately. Which model are you saving for?

·

Keep saving! I struggled with the same issue while saving for my Speedmaster several years ago. I finally got it and it was worth the wait. Don’t settle, keep pressing forward toward the goal!!!!

·

Don’t compromise on what you want. Get the IWC first and then see if “something else” is still worth it.

On the one hand - if you really want the IWC and have really wanted the IWC more than anything else on your wishlist, keep on track and keep saving.

On the other hand - to quote the great philosopher: “Everyone has a plan ‘til they get punched in the mouth.” There’s something you want that you can afford now. When you started planning, that wasn’t the case. Circumstances are somewhat different now.

I’d want to know the answer to these questions:

  • If you got that other watch, would you immediately start saving for the IWC again and be stuck in the same cycle? If so, stick with the current plan.

  • Is the watch that you can afford something that you’d be happier with instead of the IWC? If not, stick with the current plan.

  • If you buy the watch you can afford now, can you sell it for a minimal loss to fund the IWC purchase? If not, stick with the current plan.

The last one is really important, because you don’t want instant gratification to turn into long term regret.

Thank you, great advice!

I Would normally go and get what i can now, because it does suck🤣...but i have learned my lesson well and now I ask my better half for strength to keep me on my goal and it always feels better.💙

Agreed. Sage advice, I appreciate it!

I would say stay the course as well for the IWC. Which model are you saving for?

Pilot Chronograph 43 in Black or Blue!

Depending on what you're saving for, there is the risk that delay means the price keeps going up up up. I have Grand Seiko's and Zenith models in wish lists which were hundreds (close to a grand on the Z) cheaper when I first got interested. There is also risk of discontinuation - and no guarantee that a replacement model will be an improvement from your POV. If the IWC is a goal watch which ticks a lot of boxes for you then hold fast or risk big disappointment.

Great points! Appreciate your perspective!

not sure what to tell you..this one is on the block

Thats the one! On the block? Is there something you don't like, or just not enough wrist time?

Settling is for the folks who will never have enough. If you know its a matter of time. WAIT!

Love that! Thanks for the advice!

Pilot chronograph 43, still deciding on black or Le Petit Prince Blue

I have to settle I will never have the money for my grail. It sucks. If saving could get me there, I’d save. So chase your dream!

Pilot Chronograph 43 in Black or Blue!

I tried on the Pilot Chrono 43 AMG a few weeks ago. It’s pretty special. Not for me personally, but I see the appeal. The PC43 line in general is great.

Try this experiment...

Eat a scoop of your favorite ice cream flavor...eat it slowly and savor it.

Now eat twenty scoops of that same ice cream flavor...but this time eat it really fast non-stop until finished.

Which one did you enjoy more?

Totally agree. I've many times wanted to get an IWC but always falls short. You might actually end up regretting.

Agreed! 43mm is the top of how big I like to go (38-42mm is the sweet spot), but for a pilot watch I think it works! Great pic!
