Watch position survey

I’m sure this has been asked a lot but are you a before the bone (closer to the elbow), on the bone, or past the bone watch wearer?  Do you like the bracelet loose or tight and do you have a way to determine the perfect fit for you?  I used to wear my watches loose and let them hang all the way down but I’ve recently switched to a tight fit before the bone and it feels more comfortable to me.  Also allows the watch to sit flatter and makes bigger watches look more proportional to my wrist.  What’re your thoughts?

I wear mine "before the bone" (ie between the ulnar and elbow), and like a reasonably tight fit such that the watch doesn't really move, but is loose enough to allow me to slip a finger between the bracelet/strap and my wrist. When worn like that, there are no issues with the crown digging in when bending the wrist.

This is a good question many people get weird about for some reason haha. I guess I wear mine on the bone but my wrist bone doesn’t stick out so it doesn’t cause as much of a uncomfortable feeling as it does for some. My boyfriend has gotten some nasty YouTube comments of people getting so mad over how he wears his watch on his wrist bone. Just wear it however it is comfy on you and that’s all that matters😂

·

Same here, mate, really enjoy a snug fit with my watch, and prefer to place it before the wrist bone. For the longest time I had it after the bone, but when you used to wear a 55mm Gshock (like me) in that position, you’ll start realizing it shouldn’t belong there 😂 The dig on my wrist was insane. Thankfully I’ve switched to smaller sized watches now and place in a better position, so sometimes I forget I’m even wearing a watch.

What @tempus said.

Ugh — nasty youtube trolls.  I don’t know how anyone puts up with those people!  You do you, and to hell with the trolls.😉

On the bone or slightly before the bone

I had it that loose before but on my wrist it slides up and down too much. I now try to get it so I can slip half finger halfway thru

Lol i actually questioned how I wore it when I posted once over the bone and someone asked did you mean to take it over the bone for the picture? I was like have I been wearing wrong all these years?

Same here. Not so much by choice, but that's where the watch gravitates to when the band/bracelet is tight.

·

“Before the bone” all day. The watch lies flat, doesn’t get impacted by any of your wrist movements during the day, and probably better for any bracelet to not be sliding around causing stretch.

Hmm… very subjective and individual question. But since I’ve spent several seconds thinking might as well write it down:

It could be a combination of your anatomy (wrist shape and perhaps how protruding your wrist bones are), the material of the bracelet/strap, and how loose/snug the watch fit is (especially if there are no microadjusts). At the end of the day, like all things in this hobby, it’s personal preference.

·

Damn, I am in deep.  I am participating in an actual discussion about the best position on the wrist to wear a watch, and I am so here for it.  God help me 😭

Just above the wrist for me!  😊

Yea it’s a really weird thing to point out and it always cracks me up lol. Unless you’re wearing it on your elbow, wear it however😂

·

I‘m totally an „on-the-bone“ wearer. Not by choice, but the watch just fits itself there

·

I wear different watches/ straps slightly differently I guess, but have found most sit best to the left of my wrist bone. Its kind of funny how people have strong opinions about something that is anatomically personal.

·

Mostly I wear it on the bone and prefer it to be fairly snug. That said, I wear it before the bone when I’m doing something highly active (biking, working out, etc) because it’s out of the way of my wrist.

I wear mine closer to my hand - almost on my hand. I think you could call this "after the bone"?

Weirder still, although I'm right handed I wear it on my right wrist - always have. Maybe a good subject for another survey?

i used to wear after the bone too made my watch feel more like a chain bracelet. Do you find your watches get banged up more being on your dominant hand? Haha thatd be interesting survey perhaps see if people where em face up or face down too

@suntzu Actually I find it probably gets banged up less as its the hand doing the hammering rather than the one being hit 😅.

Face up/face down another good question too. Face up for me. I tried face down once and the crystal lasted all but five minutes 🤣

·

I'm a left hander and like to position my watch so that the upper lug ends at just before the wrist knuckle. Fit-wise I'd prefer to have enough space to slide my index finger right under the strap/bracelet's pin buckle/clasp.

·

I don’t have a protruding wrist bone, so I just wear it high enough so the crown doesn’t poke my wrist. I like a strap or bracelet snug enough that it doesn’t move all around, but not so tight it leaves a mark. I find getting just the right fit difficult on most watches.

·

Definetly before the bone as my bone is really sticking out so its really really uncomfortable to wear a watch on it.

Yeah I do have trouble with bracelets sometimes.  I always have to do microadjustments to make sure it fits just perfectly

·

Depends on how well the strap/bracelet conforms to my wrist. If it sits well, I wear the watch on the bone. If it's too loose and I can't make fine adjustments, I put it as far up my wrist as I can until it's a snug fit.

Totally agree. Wear it as you want. Did you see Leo in The Wolf of Wall Street? I have never seen so long strap !! And some YouTube reviewers seems to strangle their wrists .. 😂😜

·

Definitely above the bone, closer to elbow. But I do have one watch that just begs to be worn loose and relaxed and slips down to the hand.
