Windup in Europe?

I was at the Windup watch fair last year in Chicago. It was a pleasant experience. I learned a lot, met new people, listened to podcasts and sadly the only thing I did not do was buy a watch (I was on vacations and could not afford a new watch, if I wanted to survive in US). And this year seeing faces on pictures from show in San Francisco made my heart warm.

That brings me to point. It would be really awesome, if sometime in the future Windup comes to Europe. I believe a lot of us European watch heads would just pour in the venue and be happy happy to spend a few €. This can be the only time we can hold the watches in our hands before we decide whether we buy it or not.

Please tell me your opinion, specially if you are from Europe.

Exactly. People go to Switzerland to se what is new and oh man cost of being there is too expensive for us mortals. Windup is perfect for showing something new and selling products. More importantly it can introduce watch making to newcomers.

Germany should host the event 🇩🇪

WindUp, Fifa World Cup, Formula 1 races, International NFL series… you name it!

·

I’m not too involved with Windup planning, but I know that Europe has been (is?) discussed. I think there’s some logistical challenges beyond what we deal with domestically but I’d love to make it work and hope it does at some point.

Where do we sign? Haha

Definitely attending if in EU, would love to meet specific brands and people behind not available to us. The customs and vat costs and internet ordering kills many of potential purchases. F.i. I have my eye set on Islander Squale Montauk but counting in shipping, vat and customs the watch get to 2x the price. Not to mention meeting Mark, that would be awesome

That’s a great idea. For now we have only WATCHTIME Düsseldorf, Germany

They were asked on a podcast a short while ago of I remember correct. And responded with something like that they would like to do it but had their hand full for now? Think it was something like that

A WC meetup in Europe would be cool to 😊

I think this is the closest I know of:

World Time Uk – World Time Uk

I've never been but I don't think its quite as big. @Timely_Moments knows more about it than I do. I was considering seeing if people wanted to meet up there this year.

When is this?

American living in Germany and I had major FOMO seeing the event photos from SF. A EU event would be great. 👌🏾

Get in touch

😬 So it takes someone from Cyprus to organise a UK watch event.

I think they are trying to make it a European affair and Heathrow is an easy to get to location? 🤷

Yes so worldtimeUK is comparable event. Usually about 50-70 brands last I checked. The difference is the formal event is only one evening. But as it’s over the weekend you find people attend and fork their own little GTGs around it and the then up to the main event or stay till the day after

Quite a different thing but the closest I could visit is Rikketik in The Netherlands

Count me in for a Europe show. Could be difficult depending where though. There's a huge difference between having it in Calais versus Bucharest (for example).
