SOTC my journey, thoughts, concerns and where I'm headed after 2 Years in this with a fairly small Budget

Hey there, this is my First SOTC but I always loved to read about these so I figured I'll do one myself. SOOOOOO Watches have always been a fascination of mine but this crazy obsession didn't start until about 2 Years ago. But to talk about my oldest Timepiece here we have to go back further.

So this is definitely not my first Watch but it's the oldest I still own. I got this because at the time I was fascinated with the minimal design and I was into thin watches. This is a Quartz Steinglas Naos with a 38mm diameter but a 41mm lug to lug which led me to believe it was a little to small for my about 7' inch wrist so I stopped wearing it and after being fed up with this kind of Design I saw this

On the wrist of a Friend of mine I loved it so I went on the internet and read up about it and started reading about automatic watch movements and so on and naturally I ended up deciding between the Orient and this 5KX. I went with this and honestly I don't regret it. In the beginning the 4 O'clock crown bothered me but I have grown to love it. After getting this watch I wore it everyday for about a year and I was never disappointed and I couldn't find I scratch even if I looked hard. After that year I don't even know how I fell into a deep pit of Teddy Baldassarre and JOMW Videos just to name two. and since I'm a student decided to get this:

And honestly after swapping the strap into this Bond Marine Nationale it really grew on me. Love the way it looks and how it just feels indestructible. This was the first time I noticed I'm the kind of guy that needs a Date on his watch. I found myself checking my watch for the Date over and over again only to be disappointed. This was new to me because (hold on to something) there was a long period in my life I wore either smartwatches/Fitnesstrackers or nothing at all. Well well well not long after that in the middle of the Night I obviously didn't learn from my discovery and spontaneously bought this because I saw it had just come out in a video and I thought it looked awesome and I was thinking about getting a watch with an ST19 anyways.

Again no Date and honestly no regrets here either because I mean look at it. Awesome watch. My obsession got worse and worse as my budget got smaller and smaller because I had just moved which always cost a lot of money. So naturally I looked in the direction of Casio and after looking long and hard I realized I didn't really want an F-91 W since I didn't think it looked that good on my wrist because of the size I stumbled upon this

Again this is one Awesome watch especially for people that think the Royale is a little to bulky. Love the Hipster vibe this thing gives off and since I started working as a barista to finance my addiction whilst studying this fit into the picture if you know what I mean:).

SOO here I am still constantly spending time on Blogs, Watchcrunch and YouTube at some point I had to stumble upon AliExpress Watches and in this Case the first Watch I really regretted getting or to be more precise the color was what I regretted.

I don't know why I thought Dress watch and fun summer color makes a good fit but I was wrong. I should have went for the cream color with the blued hand but you know what it was 90€ and I'll get over it. still what a waste of money since I wore this thing like twice and since then its just in the watchbox. This is sad because it has the Seiko VK64 Movement which is just awesome and im wondering why not more manufacurers use this. It's a quartz movement that has an old school 4 tics per second. awesome huh?.

Well whatever At that point I realized I had gathered some more some less awesome affordable pieces and was sitting here with a watchbox worth 1 really nice watch but only had many meh but good watches. Sooo I saved up a little and delayed instant gratification to eventually get this

This is not only the most expensive piece but also my everything at the moment. Ive had it for now 3 months and during that period I wore this for 1 month straight without missing any of the others. I bought it exactly to be that one perfect daily GADA watch. And honestly it is. I love it. And the difference in quality is insane. I think I noticed that first when I got it out of the box and wound it up for the first time. Damn.

I don't know if you noticed but im going somewhere with this.

At the moment I'm really thinking about selling everything but the baby alpinist and going down the one watch route until I can and want to get into more expensive pieces since I've been eyeing a few GMTs for quite some time

But as I now explained. I like my watches and I have reasons o got almost every single one. Not even mentioning that the resale value of these I close to none so selling them isn't exactly going to be a profitable way to go. But long term I don't see myself still owning all of these anyways. I want to go 3 or 5 watches longterm. Am I being silly? have you gone down this road before too? what's your take. And last but not least what do you think about the current state of the collection.

If you read down to this I am impressed cheers :)

All the best on your watch journey. I think many of us started the same way.

Skagens, Fossils, etc.

My advice is always to save up for what you really want and avoid eating the marshmallows that are right in front of you.

Aliexpress is a glue trap for collector mice...you get caught and then you can't get off it...and you end up with a bunch of useless metal that might be fun to look at from time to time, but not really satisfying.

If you can afford to throw money away, then Aliexpress can be a blast...it fills the need to experience a new watch at a low price, but it's like cotton candy...the more you eat, the more you want, but it is never fulfilling.

My advice as allways; take your time😉 Don't go to fast. Step by step and you will find out what you like and what you want next.
