Though I stumble, the journey continues...

This is my second time writing this post, as WC crashed as I was about to post it. Though I'm out of the competition, I figured I'd toss up a short response to the post @Edge168n tagged me in.

My journey started when I was 12 and the ultimate flex possession was a Fossil watch. My mom couldn't afford a lot of things when I was young, but she nabbed my Fossil at a closeout sale and I was over the moon. I wore it everywhere.

Years later I started moving away from my rock star look and wanted to be more clean cut. I started admiring rolex and iwc online and bought a bulova.

Then I bought another Fossil, a chrono that I broke right after buying it because I used the chrono underwater. Then my interest waned for a while. Watches felt like a luxury I couldn't afford. I got really into comic books and spent a stupid amount of money on costumes and conventions. My interest came back a couple years ago and I decided I needed a good everyday wear one watch collection (how misguided 🤣) that led me to my hamilton khaki

I got into vintage and bought my Lord elgin for a good deal. I for some reason thought my lifestyle justified a gshock.

And then my last purchase, my Oris. My wife encouraged me to treat myself after having an especially tough few months to celebrate finishing a novel I've worked on for 6 years (still in finishing touches but effectively done)

So where do I go from here? Well, first I'm gonna go home and put on a different watch. Then I'm gonna daydream about my next additions. I want a few more pieces that I plan to gift to my kids someday. I love this hobby and feel blessed to have what I have.

Fossil out and re-buried. For now.

Damn. Would not have bet on you being out this early. Really thought that Fossil had some magic powers.

To freedom.

·

Great story and thanks for playing again. I think that the Fossil is going into the 1WC Hall of Fame.

·

Great stuff! The old Elgin is rad.

The Fossil is the only watch I’ve truly feared in the #1wc

Eh it happens. This year was a lot tougher than last and I tripped up. It was an honor competing with you again 🤝

Thanks! It's a bummer to dip out but an experience for sure. Until next time just think of slow motion footage of it on my wrist set to Sarah McLachlan songs. That seems an appropriately dramatic sendoff.

Oh, I'm not competing this year.

Thanks! I've only found a couple more examples of that case design but they made some cool stuff! I especially like Elvis' old elgin.
