Highly subjective watch awards 2022

There is so much "THE BEST WATCH OF 2022" content streaming through the internet tubes at the moment - and I actually don't care about the bestest watch. I'd rather read some very subjective thoughts about your watches this year. And to keep from going back to "THE BEST", lets make up a few awards. I'll start.

Most wrist time 2022

Image

My Serica, by far.

Newcomer of the year

Image

This new to me Seamaster 120m is my newcomer #1, despite it's 27 years of age.

Comeback of the year

Image

I've had this Certina PH200M for years. Never wore it much. Kept it in the back of the watchbox. But this year I rediscovered it and finally started wearing it.

Catch and release of the year

Image

I tried so hard to like this bronze type B San Martin but I never felt that it's a watch for me, I didn't like the proportions and discovered an irrational hate for it's ghost date.

Watch-related thing of the year

Image

This site. I always hated watch social media, I felt like everyone was getting separated into chambers where you could only hear from people with your opinion. I think - at least for now - it's different on here, I like to read from people with totally different watches and opinions.

Please post your picks and make up more awards!

Serica?  Got me with that one...looking now 😀

·

Right hand or Left hand options...very cool...not sure any other brand offers that

·

Good call! Looks great and I'm glad that Hodinkee told Mido that they could do a 40mm instead of the standard 44mm GMT 👌

Most Wrist Time 2022

Image

Believe it or not, the Garmin. Worn every day, on the off-wrist, since Father's Day.

Newcomer of the Year

Image

The Glycine Airman. Of all the watches that aren't my Garmin, this one has garnered the most wrist time; nearly 50% of the time available to it.

Comeback of the Year

Me. I have always appreciated watches, but never got into them like I am now.

Catch & Release of the Year

Image

I think it has to be the Archon Seafarer I gifted to my nephew for his HS graduation. It was the best spec'd watch in my collection, but I didn't like the color brown. About two weeks after I gifted it, I started hunting for a replacement & eventually ended up with the Glycine Airman, which has scratched the itch.

Watch-Related Thing of the Year

I will echo you on Watch Crunch, but twist it & say @Max and his desire to make this a friendly & respectful forum.

I was on r/Watches a bit before here & found myself becoming a troll because if the troll-like posts, cynicism & condescension found on Reddit.

I’ll use a few of your good categories

Most wrist time - GS Winter, for me, the closest to a GADA in my collection

Image

Newcomer of the year - Speedmaster Moonphase - big boy, but a beaut

Image

Comeback of the year - Citizen AT Chrono - back drawer occupant, saved by a Mankey strap

Image

And a few categories of my own -

Goofiest newcomer of the year - this one just needs a red rubber nose that honks, but somehow it works, I love it and it brings a smile to my face - Zodiac Seawolf Titanium Diver in ‘Watermelon’

Image

WC charity auction wins - both great additions Vario 1918 and Yema Navygraf diver

Image
Image

Best early watch presents from Santa Vario Versas for me and my wife

Image

Best actual early Xmas present - newest granddaughter Emmy

Happy Holidays Crunchers!

I own Serica it punches far above its price , great watch !

·

I’m going to say surprise of the year for me was the Seiko SRPE51. This was not on my radar until someone posted about it a few months ago. Before that I just thought it was a SKX with a field bezel.
Picked one up and love it, comfortable, strap monster, looks pretty sharp, decent water resistance, … just a great affordable gada watch.

The most modifiable watch of the year

Tough for me to play along as I rotate my watches so they all get worn roughly evenly.  But I will wear. We watched a few days in a row so new watches will top the most worn category by a bit:

most worn:

New comer of the year:

Comeback watch if the year:  an emotional comeback as in rekindled appreciation

Image

Catch and release

only catch and release was a strap… Barton sent the wrong one

But really, of watches I do not own, this is MY Watch of the Year.

·

Great year in review thread!  Love your best of list @robwei

Here are some random mix of yours and my own silly categories

Most Worn

and the Wristy goes to.. Prospex LX!!!!

Image

It took the crown as I love looking into that deep dial and smooth flowing second hand.  And the white numerals and markers pop wonderfully

Most Brilliant Summer Theme

and the Wristy goes to… Super Sea Wolf Aquamarine Dream ‘I’d rather be swimming’!!!

Image
Image

Anytime I thought of beach, swimming, ocean or similar I reached for this watch.  Or if I just want to be reminded of ocean and sun.  That it’s chrono certified and near perfect in timekeeping is an extra dollop of sunny ☀️

For Catch and Release of the year

the Wristy goes to Seiko turtle shark edition!

Image

Bought for crazy low price in Japan sold for small profit locally.  But the turtle fit so nicely …

Immediate Purchase to Replace the Released Turtle…

And the wristy goes to .. the Turtle edition Turtle !  (added day, ceramic bezel and sapphire vs base turtle)

Image

And since this has gone on too long already… the final award goes to

Best on trend green dial that looks good in a forest and has a sap based hand made dial from Kyoto:

And the Wristy goes to .. くろの Grand Mori!!
