Do you repair/ service/ modify your watches?

Just curious

At the moment, I only change straps/batteries.

I'd like to poke around in a movement & see if it's something I enjoy. Just need to bite the bullet and buy the equipment.

I already have a movement to mess around with.

I have done a few seiko mods including movement swaps but I haven't taken a movement fully apart yet.  Soon maybe, but my vision is terrible.

I’ve done a crystal swap and popped off numerous bezels (and scratched numerous cases 😑).  Actually working on getting together the last of a few parts and tools to do a build where i’ll need to attach dial to movement, hands, and crown. Nervous but excited!

I feel like I would do more harm than good.

Everything but the movement, and so far haven’t done anything dial-side because I either haven’t needed to or the watch is too irreplaceable to trust myself. That, or I can’t get the sodding back off.

I've done everything but a service of the movement. But that is probably just a question of time.

Like many. I mostly just change straps and batteries.  I also use a cheap 5KX dive "style" watch as my beater watch both to wear while doing chores outside and to use as a tester to mod (easily replaceable/ who cares if I screw it up) which so far has been just to try different bezels and bezel inserts but I'm thinking of changing the dial, hands and maybe the crystal over the Holidays.

I jumped right in with some seiko, and some vostoks. The pain of failure is a bit easier to digest at those costs. I watched pertinent you tube videos over and over until there was a certain level of “comfort“. I must say finishing the project was absolutely exhilarating. Enjoy yourself!
