Help me decide. 38 or 40, gooseneck or not! Please help:):)

Just watched a review of the sea-gull on Ben’s Watch Club and he reviewed all the options. My biggest concern is should I get the 38 or the 40. The gooseneck is probably a yes.

I have the 40mm version with gooseneck on a 6.75in wrist. Works well for me (bear with me, am probably not the best photographer):

If you want to stay true to history then it's 38mm, no Swanneck.

·

Goose neck??

Goose neck??

The gooseneck allows for adjustments

Been collecting for decades an never heard it referred to as gooseneck.

Perhaps it’s a loose Ali Express translation for a Swans neck fine regulator.

Always referred to as a Swanneck so far as I have seen, including on AliExpress

Your profile says you have a 7" wrist, so the 40mm would look great.

Swan neck would be a "nice to have." Makes regulation easier.

I would suggest you need the 40mm. My wrist is smaller than yours and I have the 38mm (with sapphire and gooseneck) and it shades on the small side for me. I would suggest in general that this wears smaller than its dimensions.

As to sapphire and gooseneck. I think the sapphire crystal doesn’t look as good as the domed one but I’m hoping the sapphire lasts better - and I bought this as a keeper. The gooseneck in theory allows the watch to be more finely regulated and again I went for that as a keeper.

If you think you’re just looking to experience the watch and are likely to move it on then you might have a different perspective as I don’t think you’ll get materially more on resale for those, assuming the crystal is still in good nick.

Thanks for pointing that out, I just changed it to 7.5.

You can see I put mine (38mm) on a bund to “enlarge” it and my wrist is on 16.75cm.

If you ask other people what watch size to get, they’re going to tell you what they like: their own preferences. But yours may be different. I’ll go with a smaller watch 99% if the time (so my vote is 38mm) but you might have a different presence. Maybe you have a very large wrist or just like bigger watches. You can’t go with other people’s preferences, you like what you like.

As for the swan (or “goose”) neck regulator, I’d strongly recommend going with a model that has it. If I understand correctly, the movement without it cannot be regulated. These movements are based on pretty old architecture and may not be super accurate. You’ll probably appreciate having the ability to regulate it yourself or take it to someone who can. You never know what you’re going to get otherwise.

Agree, agree! Thanks!
