Why do you love Brand X and not Brand Y?

I’m quite new to the his hobby, but I’ve already quickly gravitated to some brands more than others. For instance, Citizen rather than say, Seiko, or Omega over Rolex. Not sure why, they are both quality watch manufacturers and are at similar points on the watch hierarchy.

What’s the one brand you like more than a similar one, for no particular reason?

History, a particular collection in a specific brand, the robustness of the movements, the will to want to 'dig' a certain brand rather than others, etc.

(Omega in my case)

Omega for me too - brand image is important & part of the history and innovation , eg Space and the Olympics put Omega at the forefront of timekeeping tech for many decades.

James Bond is a cool character we grew up with, & most enthusiast love a gadget whether fictional or not.

I dislike the Rolex brand image, the flex mentality is repugnant and it doesn't help that their flagship models design doesn't appeal to me, I just don't like the look.

Basically I'm shallow as a watermark 😂

·

Yeah, I’m not into the Rolex vibe either. Even the one known as “Pepsi” turns me off partially because I don’t like that drink.

·

I prefer Citizen over Seiko mostly because of the eco-drive movement and value. They're low maintenance, reliable, accurate pieces that can survive the harshest conditions and look good doing it.

·

In the case of Omega vs. Rolex, I would prefer Omega mostly because you can just go and buy them without having to play games with an AD. Also the reasons listed by @Inkitatus, and they're no longer semi-affordable tools for serious tradesmen.

·

Quite often I’ll love a brand, its history, heritage and ethos, but not like any of the watches it produces. Oris springs to mind.

Some brands I admire, rather than desire. Grand Seiko is a good example.

Some brands I want to like, but just can’t. Something about them is faintly repellent to me. Looking at you, Bremont.

Some brands just leave me flat-out cold. Nothing about the brand or its watches makes me warm to them in the slightest. I’ll leave to guess which brand(s) I’m referring to 😏

I love when a brand has a strong name, like Omega, Panerai, Tudor, Rolex, Breitling, Oris, Nomos… Names like Frederique Constant just don’t work for me. PP, VC and AP also don’t work, yes, they are similar to Frederique Constant in form of names. I would wear them if I had the opportunity, ofcourse, but I’d still prefer the ones I mentioned first. It’s shallow, I know.

·

The whole concept of “loving a brand” seems odd to me. I can love a watch, but a brand??

·

I tend to prefer the less popular brands, partially because I hate wearing the same thing as everyone else, and partly because I find the popular brands dull.

There is no watch design more boring than an OP/DJ.

The Globemaster adds an interesting dial, and a date without a crystal wart.

I’ve always liked Rolex. I like the size (most of them), the durability, they hold or increase in value, I like the look. So many watches have copied them, they obviously are doing something right. I’m not too crazy about the price these days, but then I don’t plan on buying any more of them. The stigma is overhyped. I wear a Rolex most every day and outside of watch nerds nobody even notices.

Design language. I like dressier, some would even say "blingier" watches more than tool watches. Some companies do that better than others. My favorite watch brands are Omega, Grand Seiko and Breitling, probably in that order. I don't like Tudor or Sinn or other brands that tend to focus more on the tool watch aspect of the hobby.

For example, I don't care much for the Omega Speedmaster. But I love the Aqua Terra (I own it) and I think both the Seamaster Professional 300m and the Planet Ocean are on the blingier side of the tool watch spectrum, so they both appeal to me much more than say, a Tudor Pelagos.

None of my three most worn watches have a rotating bezel. In order, those are an Omega Aqua Terra, Monta Noble and Oris Big Crown Pointer Date. All similarly styled watches.

I'm with you guys! You & 'Inkitatus.' Omega me, please. Your description pretty much says it all.

I like the different Omega watch families, too. Not always the same look or movement.

For insurance, God forbid, I always have a pic of my current watch case. And now, that'll change soon as I added another semi-vintage Speedmaster. The Omega brand suits me perfectly.

The three non-Omega's watches are: my birth year, my first gold piece from 1987 & my TH 'work watch' from 1993.

To dislike a brand just because of hype or flexing is as bad as liking it for only the same reason. Also, hating a brand simply because you can't get one is lame. Lastly, I don't think lumping an entire brand into any category makes much sense.

·

A lot of Citizen's watches are too big for my taste, and I tend to like Seiko designs more. BUT the more I'm into watches the less I buy a specific brand, but rather a specific watch.

I fact, I have a watch box with six watches I wear the most. Five of them are my own mods/builds.

·

Right now it’s Seiko for me. Reason being? I’m currently is a heavy modding phase and who makes more parts then them really. I can use other movemts that can be arguably better but the affordability can’t be beat and if I am need a service I can just swap the movement and call it a day.

·

I love Brand X (Xeric) and Brand Y (Yema) and even brand Z (Zodiac). I like them all. And I have no idea why.

·

I started my collection almost 20 years ago with a lot of vintage Omegas. Some not working. At the time they were very reasonable compared to Rolex. I purchased a busted-up, non-working Speedmasrer Pro and sent it to Omega for a complete overhaul. It came back looking brand new. Repair cost was $400. Now I’ve gravitated to Seiko divers. Vintage and new. Just love them.
